Re the comment that was made by Dean Cox "it is our forward line that is the problem we needed Curnow). Has he forgotten about 2024 where we finished on top of the ladder but unfortunatrly lost the GF. Top by a fair way I remember.
Cox was responsible for the draft process last year and he signs datolli as our first round pick and now signs Rocas similar players, to go with paps. And what about Hamily, also a similar player. What, do we have a fwd line of Curnow and small fwds,.
So I feel he must share a fair bit ot the blame for fwd line in 2025. Further ? does Amerty still get a game or is he surplus, the same goes for Mclean when Cox has said he would play a ruckman ( I assume a pure ruckman ala Ladhams) now on the 4 man interchange.

If Cox keeps to his word, i expect Ladhams or Green to be the 5th interchange next year.

With Curnow, it now opens intrigue on how many KPFs Cox will play. He might take a horses for courses approach. I thought it was significant where they see Armatey when his contract was extended a year out from him entering FA.

Would not surprise me if Logan is tried down back again and perhaps try to develop him into a KP Swingman, which we've missed with Reid (McCartin experiment was a failure in this regard).

It will be interesting watching the pre-seasom match sims in seeing how our team structure & game plan may shape up.

According to my numbers, assuming we draft King, Carmichael and Kyle, and retain Lloyd and Rampe on the primary list adds up to 37, which means we would have up to 3 picks in rookie draft, should we choose to use them, taking the total list to 44 players

Get our three academy picks and get out. This draft is apparently even worse than 2016 and 2012, which is saying something. And also why I don't have any great expectations for our Academy kids, or problem with using the pick as part of the Curnow package. But at least we know what we're getting.

                I can’t wait

if I was a mid or a HBF I would be salivating to eyes up open elite targets leading everywhere

the players rotating thru is ridiculously better now that “Coleman Curnow” drags the best defender let alone his ability for us to lock in and his ability to apply scoreboard pressure at an elite level

                Curnow
                macca
                paps
                joel
                heeney
                chad
                rosas etc

Haywards role was t dragging the best defender with him but Curnows will be for large parts of the game because he can beat the best

rampe for sure makes sense via drafting again

not sure re Lloyd but most clubs respect a one club10yr plus loyal player (in their twilight) at the PD and allow them move thru to their existing to finish a one club player

Reid was not a true swingman. He had to play back due to Reg being out and played 6 matches. He was dreadful and gave up more goals than Reg did in a year (this is telling a story not need to be accurate). Reid was good if he was the extra. But if he had to actually defend a player, not much chop.

I think Logan is a similar player. They just have no back craft. Logan is not a player you could put back there and be confident he could keep a player goalless or in low figures. I think we have plenty of Key Backs. Logan would be surplus there. We have far less Key Forwards and they are hard to come buy unless you are buying into their problems, as in JUH.

The top end of the draft is good and quite even they are saying. Up until about 40 there is not a great deal of difference the scribes are saying. but after that it drops off a cliff.

Mmm, did Tom McCartin have any backline craft when he was moved back? How would we know if Logan has any back line nous given he has never played back?

Not quite correct BRS. Until we hear Rampe and Lloyd are not on the main list, we currently have 35. That will give us three ND picks. If we move a veteran main list player to the rookie list before the ND, we'll take 30, 31, 42 & 62 to the ND.

Either way, we'll have a full main list and only Hamling and Hanily as Cat A rookies, Edwards as a Cat B. Could add up to four Cat A rookies and one Cat B Rookie. Overlooked in the ND academy players can be just added last in the RD. We have the unmovable pick 9 as our first pick in the RD

Cal Twomey has his latest form guide up. King at 25 and Kyle at 27. He’s talked up Kyle regularly through the year and even speculates he may be first to be bid on of our academy kids. I assume he has some intel from enough clubs to keep plugging him.

Players recruited by Sydney as forwards who ended up in defence: Tom McCartin, Leo Barry, Heath Grundy. Probably several more players in the past 30 years.
