Team for the match against the Giants, which takes place after the AFL game at the SCG on Sunday. Unfortunately, Snell is out with an illness. Once again, it's hard to see a win, with our injury list being a lot longer than the Giants.

    B: B. Leidler (32), W. Edwards (28), C. Este (56)
    HB: C. Mitchell (35), T. Longmire (58), M. Geddes (61)
    C: L. Hunter (46), B. Edwards (50), I. Kirk (31)
    HF: N. Bowman (23), W. Green (45), T. Hanily (40)
    F: M. Lloyd (51), J. Buller (39), J. Kluske (47)
    R: N. Shipley (52), P. Ladhams (19), J. Harrison (65)
    INT: A. Hanrahan (53), P. Roseby (54), J. Endemann (57), C. McClennan (66), J. Tidemann (64)
    23rd Player: C. McClennan (66)
    EMG: T. Hitchens (56), L. Cabor (59)

    IN: C. Este, T. Hanily, L. Hunter, P. Ladhams, P. Roseby
OUT: J. Hamling, A. Sheldrick (AFL), P. Snell (illness), B. Laws, T. Ryan (omitted)
NEW: Cameron Este, 19, 176cm, Pennant Hills/Swans Academy

Doing well to be in front 35-31, against a Giants side with a large advantage in AFL listed players. Sheldrick is backing up and is going well.

Pressure was really good in that quarter to keep the Giants goalless. Unfortunately we only increased our lead a little bit, due to lacking a bit of composure in our forward fifty. Sheldrick and Shipley are doing well in the middle. Mitchell looks like he's playing half back flank and it seems to suit him. Edwards and Geddes also doing well in defence.

Giants kicked a couple late, to get ahead 67-62 at the final break. We're still scrapping hard, but the occasional missed tackle or missed target proved costly.

Ran over us but Ladhams and Sheldrick looked good.

A couple of handy inclusions. Shame Will Edwards is out, though.

Shipley easily our best player in the VFL this year bar maybe Ladhams. I remember he was great last year too. Whilst unlikely (and Iknow he’s a bit older) I wouldn’t be upset if we upgraded him in the mid season draft.

Boys v men - some positional moves made due to lack of available players but I’d honestly say the cupboard is completely bare at the moment. Apart from Ladhams none of these guys look close to pushing for a senior call up

Minutes after I posted this he went off with an injury - hopefully not too serious

Completely outclassed, but no surprise there. Essendon had more than 400 AFL games experience, we had Adams with 225, Ladhams with 57 and all the others with 10 between them. Then we had two of our prime movers in Shipley and Mitchell off with injury.

I was quietly pleased with Snell's game. He was mostly against a much bigger opponent in Gerreyn, but used his leap to successfully counter him in the air, and generally made decent second efforts. Ladhams was competitive and we now know Green is definitely not a defender. Not much else caught my eye.

Pretty good summary. Though the umpiring was shocking again.I could not believe how any head high tackles were not paided.

I haven't caught the last few ressies games properly. Is there a reason they are trying Green as a defender?

My impression was that with Edwards out, they decided that we needed another tall down there. He was actually pretty good taking intercept marks and spoiling when the ball was bombed long. However, he was less good trying to keep up with leading forwards, and less good again, when agility was required to chase ground balls.
