Thanks ... now for what I was on about ....

Well, you would have probably noticed that Melbourne is as flat as a tack and all the roads are pretty straight.

Sydney is a bit hilly and the roads tend to curve a bit (well, it's a lot hilly and there are lots of nasty curves in the road).

Spida has to get used to that.

Spida mentioned that "Sydney's a lot bigger than Melbourne" ... OH FREAKIN DER.

He also mentioned that he's looking forward to being unrecognised in Sydney. Well try all you like son ... he's bloody nearly 7 foot tall (I'm five-one and a bit, so anything over five-two is nearly 7 foot to me) and he is covered in the worlds ugliest tatts. He's one of the most recognised AFL players in the country ... of course Sydney is going to know who he is, we just tend to leave the players to their business.

Again, footballers aren't as exciting as the starlets from Home & Away ... that's why you don't see much of them in the social pages here in Sydney. I realise that social pages wouldn't exist in Melbourne if it wasn't for the footballers, the WAGs and Lillian Frank.

Spida, IMO, from the interview, sounds like a little bush rat that's been picked up from the Under 18's from Upper Cumbuckta West, who's on his first trip to the big smoke. How old is he? 33? 34?

Do you get what I'm on about now, or do I need to go slower for you?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Was he trying to be funny????
Maybe the papers should include the "big grin" smilie at the end of each of his lines.
All I'm saying is that he sounds like a little 17 year old bush rat who's never been to the big smoke before.

As someone has pointed out, Spida's quotes were taken from a very tongue in cheek radio interview which have tried to be adapted to something purporting to be a serious news article by someone purporting to be a serious journalist.

I dont think so Annie, most sydney people wouldnt know an AFL fotballer if they come and punched em in the nose.I was walking down george st with my 5yr old girl and she was the only one to recognize MOL and Monty. If that was in melbourne every body would know who they are.BTW for all those hills in sydney the civil contractors didnt get off there fat arses and do a good job excavating them .So there for @@@@ design.Melbourne is not flat just better designed.

How would you know who the thousands of people on George street recognised and didn't?

I once saw Sonny Bill Williams (A huge RL star) walk through Fox Studios on a busy Friday afternoon and not get bothered by people.

Generally, our big names are pretty well known by most sports minded people in Sydney. Just because they don't stop and stare doesn't mean no one knew who they were.

Your view of Sydney is probably true of hardcore League areas in the West, but in the late 90's, the South Australian media decided to send a crew to Sydney to show how little Sydneysiders knew about Football and in their stupidity, they chose the Eastern Suburbs and couldn't find anyone who couldn't give them information on the players and AFL in general!
