      racist remarks

Who was the player who back in the 90s told an indigenous opponent that he was a member of a "dying race" or an "extinct race"?

For some reason it sticks in my head that was Peter Everitt, but I really hope I am wrong.

Everitt admitted to making a racist remark. He voluntarily suspended himself for four matches, and donated $20,000 to an indigenous charity. He also apologised profusely. Not that that makes it ok, by any means, but you do need to share the whole situation.

          hi all.
i think this ruckmen situation is quite interesting, and have made a few points.
          - spida is the best of all 3, great tap ruckman who can roam up forward and kick a few. played his best footy to date in 2005 and will really excel given a second chance in sydney. though the better ruckmen he will play as a tall forward and ruck in that area of the field.
          - jolly will be the main ruck as his ability as a tall marking target is lacking compared to spida. to rest he will be benched, with spida moving into the middle and a small goalsneak into the forwards.
          - doyle will be in the magoos, as i find him ordinary. granted he has had a lot of injuries, but since his drafting in 99 (7seasons) has not done much. roos might try the 3 ruckmen but unless its a huge success, look out to see doyle traded/delisted in the next year. too much risk (injuries) with little gain.
          - in 2 seasons, with spida most likey hanging up the boots and doyle gone, the swans will look to trade in another ruckmen or find a young prospect in the draft.
          - finally though goodes is more a wingmen, he still has the ability to ruck 4-5 times a game and can fill any 3rd ruck possibilities

this is only my opinion and please feel free to comment

            Re: Re: racist remarks

Thanks for this. I think the "dying race" remark might have been made in the incident with Michael Long.

Let's hope that Spida has genuinely reformed.

For anyone who may question the value of using pick 33 on Everett should remember we used a very similar pick last year to secure Torture. (only difference was geelong didn't hold out for more. They couldn't believe their luck!)

Have you watched any football lately? if you seriously think we're going to delist Doyle you must be crazy or extremely ignorant. I'm confident he's finally going to reach his potential now that his injury jinx seems to be behind him, and in 3 years he'll be our #1 ruckman.

Sorry I left off the irony face. My comment was in response to someone saying he needs a good nickname. I'd say he has just given the Swans one of the best nicknames in AFL. Spida sure beats Monty, B1 & B2, NOG and Baz.

The jury still has to be out on Doyle's ability to keep his body in one piece. Just because he managed to string together half a dozen senior games late in the year doesn't mean he'll prove to be durable long term. Fingers crossed, because it would be nice to see a "home grown" ruckman have a moderately long term career with the Swans.

I recall Round 1 last year starting with 3 ruckmen.

No one has mentioned Spida's Win/Loss ratio, dosn't he have the worst ever, something like 30%.

Not on GF Day '06 they weren't. Not enough strength of voice at critical times to pull the skin off a rice pudding. I'm still gobsmacked when I think back to it. I was howled down by the houndstoooth jackets in the members stand for "standing". And would look across at a field of red and white inactivity on more than one occasion. Was it simply shellshock - or what?

Don't worry, I was yelling and screaming to the point of losing my voice. However, In an entire bay of Swans' supporters, your point is exactly correct. There was about three of us making any noise out of about 250 until the last quarter.
