$50,000 with $25,000 suspended is getting away with it lightly in my opinion. It should not be happening in the AFL. Hell, it shouldn't be happening in the under 10's down the road. We are lucky....in saying this though, don't think we deserved to lose the points, but it could have happened.
Maybe it is time the AFL did something so this CANNOT happen again. They have enough 'officials' at the game, surely this wouldn't increase the workload too much...Go you mighty BLOODBOYS!Comment

how can the coaches know that they cannot send a 19th man on because there are massive consqeunces, if the swans are not given a heavy penalty now?
wallace is right i would of thought. The club deserves a strong punishment because as you say then the clubs know not to do it.Theres not much left to sayComment
-
i thought it was a fitting punishment, how the hell do you just run on the ground when someone is yet to come off.
Did we not notice three guys on the bench, where did they think the other guy went?Theres not much left to sayComment

The massive consequences are if the opposing captain calls a headcount, they lose all their score.
That's more massive then a 50/25K fine.
If you think any club would do it intentionally to gain an advantage and risk the consequences above, you are delusional.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

I'm told (not that I have bothered researching) that it's impossible to lose points unless it is reported during the game by the captain, so I don't think that was ever an option.
I think a token fine of say $10K would have been sufficient. It was a simple mistake, no club is stupid enough to do this deliberately.
The message sent by this huge fine IMO is that we gained 2 points illegally, and I think that is beyond unfair. I guess it takes the heat of their goal umpiring department.
create a distraction...Comment

OK, we should be fined, but 50K is way over the top.
And look what 20K (correct weight?) got Hird and Essendon! He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

if you could get away with it you would, but you dont try because it was massive consequences such as a huge fine or at worst a loss of points.
thats why when it does happen there needs to be a big punishment and i think the 50k is good.
Wether we did it intentionally or not is irrelevantTheres not much left to sayComment

Watch for WC to do it next!
If the interchange system was more sensible, with stewards actually monitoring who goes on and comes off, then this wouldn't be an issue.
I suppose it seems a bit strange for us to think how White went on without Jolly coming off, but in a close game, first game, and a lot of stuff happening, it would be easy for a player not to be thinking about things clearly.
The fine of that size seems rather pointless and ludicrous, but does anyone really care?Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

According to Ch10 sports news tonight, its $25K now - $25K "suspended" fine, i.e. if we do it again, we automatically cough up $25K. If we haven't done it again over 24mths, we don't have to pay it.
A "first gamer" was the person blamed for walking on the field.
Who was the first gamer??
Guess they'll be asking for gold coin donations at the turnstiles this weekend.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Should come out of the first gamers wage. Should teach him a thing or two.
What a great way to take attention away from another @@@@house weekend of umpiring. So does that mean we are still protected if a melbourne club gets only 7,500 and we cop a 50 thooooouuusand dolla fine? Gee some protection!Comment
-
On the contrary, whether it was intentional or not is highly relevant. If it was deliberate, the team deserves the book thrown at it, the match points deducted, and possibly other fines too. It would be cheating.
Does anyone seriously think any AFL coach would seek to use such a tawdry tactic to win a game?Comment

Anyone read the thread on BF about the 50K fine? All the UFO conspiracy theorists are out in force. @@@@ing fantastic!Comment
