    What the frack!

Have woken up to the most appalling weather; heavy rain and strong winds.
    Forecast for Saturday
Rain, moderate to heavy at times, easing late in the day. Fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong to possibly gale force along the coast, easing this evening.
Precis: Rain and wind easing later.
    City: Max: 14

    Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.

I remember a QF a number of years ago when it was pouring down and blowing a gale and it was cold.....and in the dying moments of the game Cresswell kicked a goal to put us in to the PF the following week (as for that game....)

BTW I agree the weather isn't going to do anything for the crowd numbers.

2 members of the unholy trinity won't be going tonight. 1 is for social reasons and the other is financial. For some people paying 25% of their annual membership on a finals ticket is quite a stretch.

I'll be there cheering as loudly as I can.
      Bring it on!

The arse clowns at the AFL have completely under-estimated the effect of the recession. Yes we have a recession Mr. Sheen. The game against Hawthorn was memorable because Stewie Maxfield kicked probably the best gaol ever on the SCG from the boundary line under pressure in front of the Ladies Stand and Cress?'s mark of course. It was also enjoyable because that insufferable arrogant worm playing at full forward for the Dorks was cleaned up by Dunks. Glory days and to be repeated tonight.

Nonsense. We do not have a recession. And the current ecomonic climate didnt stop a huge crowd turning up at the MCG last night. I don't believe that tickets sales for tonights game have been so greatly affected because most Swans supporters cant afford to buy tickets.

It's pathetic, isn't it? According to this morning's press, 17,127 tickets have been sold for our match tonight. We have about 22,000 Sydney-based members, so you'd have to wonder how committed they are to the team. It won't say much if they don't show up.

Incidentally, those ticket sale figures don't include all the ANZ Stadium members (who didn't have to book a ticket), so it's a safe bet there will be more than 17,000 people tonight.

Do you even know what a recession is connolly?

I'm sure there's going to be more than 17 000 people turning up tonight. If they've been able to afford tickets to watch Swans games at ANZ and pay for crappy, overpriced food and drinks in the past, they'll buy tickets and the attendance should be 50 000+ (or 30 000+ if it's still pelting down).

While I understand what you are saying and with me personally NOTHING comes before my team, many people have lives outside the Swans (perish the thought) and often have family or social things to attend. As no-one had any idea a week ago when and even if we would be playing this weekend, sometimes other plans are made. Add to that this abysmal weather and if we get 25000 there, we're going OK.

I actually think that 60% of our sydney membership isn't bad tickets sales. In light of the weather, zero promotion of the game and a unsexy opponent - not too dusty.

This is not a home-and-away match - it's a FINAL. It's also the last time Sydney-based members will get to see the team for the year. You'd think club members, of all people, would make would the effort to turn up.

Yes, I accept that life goes on, the weather's bad, our form has not been good, the marketing of the game is virtually non-existent, tickets are expensive, and North can't draw a crowd, but there's no credible excuse for thousands of club members not to show up to a final. Where's their passion?

That's quite an elitist attitude. Tickets are expensive when you consider they are on top of annual membership, and if you include kids, food, drink you are looking at an expensive night out in appalling weather when the game is live on TV anyway.

I am going to the game in a box so not sure if my ticket is included in the 17,000. Ironically, the last time I had the fortune to watch a game in a box at ANZ was the 2004 final against West Coast in very similar conditions.

Re the recession, no we are not currently in a recession, but NSW was the one state to record negative growth in this week's national accounts. If that is repeated next quarter then technically NSW is in recession.

Thankfully the races have been canceled at Randwick so I'll be in a better condition that I otherwise would have been!

Stuck in their wallets. Seriously, some of the comments in this thread making excuses for the anticipated poor crowd would have supporters of AFL in the southern states (except Port supporters) shaking their heads.
