Maybe I'm deluded but I still haven't given up hope of a ROK change of heart. If he realises that the Hawks won't pay him even as much as the Swans have offered and other clubs are baulking, it could yet happen. Still think a big risk remains of him going via the PSD if no-one comes up with an acceptable trade. Carlton could possibly price him out of others' reach - certainly the Demons would struggle with their 92.5% cap restrictions next year. Would he risk the chance of one of the Perth clubs picking him up?
Well the other rumour going around BF was that Lovett wasn't keen on moving to Sydney. With that in mind, and considering what baggage he comes with, I would say it is a wise decision reached by the club. Which would probably mean we're going to be chasing some other outside mids.

As for ROK, I don't know what to think anymore. Reading all the quotes from Hawthorn seems to suggest that they aren't prepared to pay him any where near as much as he has demanded as it upset their current players.

      Swans Say No To Lovett

It's been confirmed that the Swan's have said no to trading for Lovett due to concerns of his attitude and commitment to football.

I doubt Melbourne would be interested. They're heading down the youth path so I don't see where a 28 year old fits in.

And would the interstate clubs really want to draft a player that doesn't want to go there?

I think Carlton are the smokies here. No doubt that ROK has the most up side for them of all the sides interested... even Hawthorn. The Carlton forward line needs a foil for Fevola much more than Hawthorn needs one for Buddy, Roughead and Williams.

We need a Hawks trade to happen with O'Keefe settling for less money because I can see a Carlton move via the PSD as being much more likely than him staying with the red and whites.

It took this long for the Swans to realise what we all knew.

I wonder if the Saints are a chance to make a late play for O'Keefe? Surely Roos and Lyon have been talking, so they could be a smokey.

Depends what his real motivation is. If it's a flag then he wont head West, if it's to be closer to home then he wont head West, but he could go there for money.

If someone wants out that much we are simply better off seeking a trade. Doesn't do much for the rest of the club to have someone see themself as too good for the rest of them - if he is seeking a premiership with another club.

Swans now not interested in Andrew Lovett

According to Paul Gough of Sportal the Swans have told Essendon that they are not interested in Andrew Lovett because of his attitude. IMO a good decision by the Swans ,if the story is true. In addition, the Hawks are getting cold feet about ROK because of the dollars being asked rather than the question of giving up pick 16 and a player. I hope that he has a change of heart and signs with the Swans. Or has the situation moved beyond this point?

I was wondering about this. I don't think they have a quick outside mid we want, but maybe another first round pick? Or we could swap that for a mid?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Its a bit of a dissapointment a player like Lovett would really add to our midfield group but bad attitude is bad attitude so its probably a good call.
What about Farren Ray he could satisfy our need for speed in the mid field.

I was excited about Lovett (for the right price) but he could be another lazy Davis type and we don't need that.

Lovett is believed to be contracted to Essendon for about $250,000 a year.
Sydney said it was a combination of the money Lovett wanted and the trade price Essendon required that ruled it out of the trade.

                              Trading with Hawthorn!

                              Hi All,

Just an observation but if we are all hanging our hats on the Hawks giving the Swans or for that matter ROK fair market value then both the club and player are deluded.

Both O'Keefe and the Swans really need a third party eg. Carlton, Collingwood who believe they are thereabouts in terms of success for a reasonable deal to be done for the Swans and a reasonable pay packet to be paid to O'Keefe.

As an example do we remember how they held Everitt back in 2006? They also wanted a 1st rounder but still settled on a second rounder after waiting till the last minute for a 32!!!y.o. Don't forget what the did to the Kangaroos with the Jon Hay trade!

All I'm saying is don't trade with Hawthorn if you can help it as they want over market price for their players but then screw you over when it's their turn for a player.

We don't need to give them a ready made top line player for peanuts ie. even Pick 16 is quite low on its own and I'm sure they are treating it like a top 5 pick!!!
