Unfortunately we can only speculate, but I'm willing to bet that he got as many chances as he deserved. I guess it is one of the frustrating things about the club's policy of keeping things inhouse, although on the whole this is something I support.

I've been following the Swans for around 30 years and in that time we have seen a number of coaches, coaching teams and even administrations come and go whose judgment and decision-making (and even motivation) could be called questionable at best.

Without doubt the current powers-that-be are the most capable that I have seen and I have faith in their ability to decide what's best for the club in what will clearly be the most challenging period since the coaching team - at least - has been in charge. (Errrmmm.. having said that, the recent acquisition of Rhyce Shaw is sorely testing my faith)

The decision to delist Nick, whilst a painful one for many of the fans, must be seen as one for the greater good of the team. We definitely missed a fit, in-form Davis this year but the team has moved on and the supporters need to as well.

As many have said on this thread already, I wish Nick all the best and thank him for the highlights of his time with the Swans.

What about Kirk then? He was deemed not good enough by the club twice.....

I can remember in 2003 in particular that often his goal was the "sealer" the one that got the Swans home. Heres' three notable occasions:

Round 6 Collingwood at Telstra Dome. Famous win against a highly rated team at that time. The Pies were coming back in the last quarter in front of their very loud mob of over 40,000. Chris Tarratt was particularly on fire. With the Swans just 12 points in front , having led by 34 at 3/4 time, Davis kicks the goal against his then very recent club; it seals the game.

Round 16 Carlton at Princess Park. Like Collingwood above, the Blues were strorming home in the last quarter, chasing a big lead of 40 points by Sydney at 3/4 time. The gap got down to 19, with plenty of time left. There was full house of over 20,000 Blues fans. Davis kicks a freak of a goal, literally with no hands! (I think the clip is still available on YouTube).

Qualifying Final Port Adelaide at Football Park. Yet again an occasion when the home team with the crowd behind them are charging at a Swans lead. Sydney led by 24 at 3/4 time but were in trouble, with at least two injured players, (Seymour and Kennelly I recall), gone for the game. Davis kicks the only goal for Swans in the last quarter, Sydney stay alive long enough to record one fo the great upsets of all time. (They were $7 for the game)

See, he was more than a one game wonder!

Sorry, Goodesy's used up my first chance.

Comparing the Hippy to the showpony is comparing chalk to cheese.

I'm sure the Hippy was only dropped and re-listed once.

The Hippy's earned his kudos. We all know that no one tries harder than the Hippy.

Not Davo, not Goodesy, not Blind Barry, not anyone.

Game Vs Collingwood - Was at that game. Surrounded by ferals and Tricky Nicky slots it from 50 after being booed all night.

Was also at the Carlton game... Surrounded by 8 of my Blues supporting mates.... Happy days..

Remember the PA final well. Looked like we were going to let it go. PA came hard after 3/4 time. IIRC, it might of been Fossie (?) that got a free just outside 50. Port floods back and covers off everyman and fills every hole. Only one person not covered was Nick Davis outside of 50. I remember thinking to myself, Davis was the only one in the side that could kick from outside 50. Sure enough, Davis receives and bombs it straight through the middle, post high from well outside 50. Game over.

Not to mention the spectacular one hander he took and converted at the start of the 4th 45 out....he was great in that QF

But apart from that, what's he ever done for the Swans...

I'm sorry to see him leave - I think he could still have been more than useful. And when he did go, he went with class, no whingeing, enjoyed his time in footy. I suspect he will be picked up in the PSD, and I hope he can find a club that gives him the scope he needs.
He was an exciting player to watch: in addition to the instances mentioned, as recently as round 22 last year when, without Baz, we gave Hawthorn a football lesson with Davo a strong contributor.
Good luck Nick, I hope your newfound maturity stands you in good stead, and for that quarter in 2005 you will be numbered among the immortals. Incidentally my favourite kick from that game wasn't the one that put us in front, it was the long kick from ROK that he marked despite the close attentions of two Cats, then kicked the goal.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

                        Not surprised, but unbelievable

I am blown away how someone like Nic who has loads of ability & footy nous had next to no opportunities over the past season & a 1/2, while Bevan with no football brain/nous was given 80 senior games to learn new ways to turn the pill over, & still doesn't know how to out body an opponet in a marking contest!

The 05 SF and 06 GF will stand out as two BIG games he showed his true class.

Selfish play IPO. What if we had turned it over? Nick had created a loose man for Port. Exactly why he is gone.

You're right. I think he even "hi-5'd" one of his team mates afterward. Show pony.
