I think we can safely assume that the following people are going to be silently content because their prices have gone down.

    Gold Stand
    Silver Stand
    Silver Concourse
    Bronze Concourse
    Red Zone

What I would be interested in is the opinions of the following groups (who have been the vocal posters on this thread)

    Platinum Stand
    Gold Concourse
    Season Ticket

    as to the following options:

    1) I'm keeping my old seats and paying a higher price
    2) I'm downgrading to get a lower price (n/a for season ticket)
    3) I'm not joining up

I'm going to invent some numbers out of thin air - say about 1/3 of members are in the affected categories. And say 2/3 of Platinum Stand and Gold Concourse are either renewing or downgrading, and 1/3 of season ticket holders are renewing.. They would lose a number of season ticket holders (who they may not have been making much profit on) and a smaller number of reserved full club members (who they may have been making more profit on)

This may be offset by the number of EXTRA people who might be tempted to come on board as a result of the SCG-only memberships.

In short, I honestly cannot see a problem with what the club is doing from a money point of view. It sucks if you are in a category that is getting stung for extra, but I reckon half or more of them will simply suck it up and renew.
    2) I'm in gold concourse, but will be downgrading to silver along with 6 of my friends. I also have 3 new friends that were planning on signing up, but it is taking a bit more convincing now than it would have. I'm also dropping my premership club option.

      3) This year I was able to miss a few games (due to work) and still make the most out of the season ticket. 09 membership doesn't afford that same luxury, hence ill only be buying tickets to the games I will definitely be able to make.

I'm a season ticket holder, and will be upgrading to Silver concourse and keeping my old seats. Paying an extra $75, yes, it'll hurt my pocket but I'm not going to buy a bronze. I don't like the seats there.

This thread is way too civil. Thought I'd come to the wrong site.

Silver stand (upper Messenger) ticket holder, with platinum ANZ seats. Feeling for the dedicated members who find themselves with a hefty increase for their much loved seats, while internally saying "woot!", though I'll probably spend the savings on some crappy merchandise anyway.

Easy to say, but I think if they'd classified that area as Gold, we'd just be stumping up the extra cash after venting my spleen on this board :-)

Just playing devils advocate for a moment, would you be doing that if we had a realistic shot at playing in the GF?

Yeah I would, coz I forked out for prem club the past years and gave my numbers to my friends as I couldn't attend, and just cant afford to push it this year. My budget is a tiny bit tighter this year with cost of living increasing (my rent just went up $200 a month) as well as fuel and all that is in between.

I buy m y raffle tickets and merchandise every year and I always bring random friend sto games and cover their tickets coz I want them to come along and experience my love of the game, but this year something has got to give, and prem club is it.

I love my seats, so after consideration my protest at the price rise will be dropping the Premiership Club which I have had since it was introduced in 2004.

Allowed me to organise very cheap flights and accommodation for both GFs, but I would still feel confident about getting a ticket if we managed to get into the 09 decider - I actually haven't met any Full Club Members who missed out in either year.

I joined as a member in the early 90s and continually get letters thanking me for that which is nice, but nearly every letter talks about "rewarding" members like me, but this never happens. I am not really interested in rewards, but I would like a year where my membership doesn't rise, I can't remember the last time there wasn't at least a small rise.

Hear hear. Then again, one could argue the reward for us members from the early 90's was the 2005 premiership, not to mention those wonderful games in 1994 and 1995, winning with odds against us of 5-1 and similar.

Yes, I remember Carlton and Barassi's 500th game as player/coach.

Of course this is guesswork - none of us knows the ins and outs of price and profitability without access to detailed financial information.
Depends what their objectives are. Surely bums on seats is as desirable for a club as pure profit, for a whole range of reasons?

I for one, think this is a matter of poor timing on behalf of the club. Above CPI price rises under the current circumstances ain't good policy. Having said that, I am not across the details.

I guess now that the "Red Zone"has come down in price and assuming the membership benefits havent changed from previous years (I havent been bothered to read the fine print)then that means the MA Noble & Ladies stands should be packed to the rafters in 2009.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Nathan Rees must have taken a leaf out of the same marketing book the swans did. Make it seem like prices havent gone up by espousing about how they have put a very small amount of seats down while increasing prices against the majority.
