[QUOTE=Cheer Squad;426139]Currently, we have around 18,500 members across both Sydney and Melbourne, with many members still continuing to renew their membership each week in the lead up to the start of the season.
It seems to me that 18,500 at the start of feb when most of last years members who intended to renew, would have, is pretty poor.
Maybe the softly softly approach where the club will individually contact members with seating choices and will still accept renewals (even at start of feb) when they were supposed to close mid december, is an indication of a bit of worry?
Maybe the graduated pricing approach has alienated quite a few more members and ex-members than was anticipated?Comment

The budget went into deficit today and people are losing their jobs. As I understand NSW has officially been in recession for 12 months now, so you might expect some people will have other priorities with their money.
What gets me is the club hikes up membership fees and/or tries to fleece people with fancy marketing/packages that only mean increases anyway. The banks are asked today to play their part and work through the situation with small business. Yet our mob haven't quite arrived on the planet when it comes to restraint. You can of course though opt for the painless extraction method over 11 months, but it 'aint" any cheaper.
Me old mate Blind Freddie can see what's going on yet it appears we are intent on alienating supporters.
The Salary Cap continues to rise so the AFL has a bit to answer for. If we have deflation will the salary Cap go down; not on your sweet Nellie. If things continue the way they are the next round of media bartering will be very interesting indeed.
I say costs to members should be pegged for the next 2 years at least. Once you lose them it is very hard to get them back particularly if we take a dive down the ladder. And don't think it is just Sydney members who are fickle.Comment

18,500 seems like a reasonable number at this stage.
On par with last year i would say.
Many will also be making a later decision due to the GFC (not Geelong Football Club).
The Australian Government hand-outs will help too"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.Comment

Then again KR won't be too upset if you put some of your bonus to a Swans membership, that is of course unless MT manages to put the kybosh on it. I reckon there will be a lot of footy fans of all clubs breathing a sigh of relief that $950 is going to drop into their skyrockets so they can once again be onboard in 2009.Comment

Here's the latest update on the membership figures...down in all categories.
Swans membership numbers way down but coach Roos not concerned | The Daily Telegraph
So far, we've sold about 16,500 memberships in Sydney, about 6,500 in Melbourne, and 6,000 Homebush superpasses.Comment

I wonder how much lower that number would have been if the backflip on Gold concourse memberships (changed to Silver) had not occurred.Comment

In Melbourne, a large amount of GA memberships are generally sold at the gate at the first or second home game.
However, the team will need a good start to bolster the numbers for Sydney memberships and also to jack up the 3 match superpass as well.

The amazing thing about these marketing gurus is that they all have degrees in this and that yet are oblivious to what is going on outside their windows. Could it be that they are paid a bonus on an outcome, they bulk up the packages on the basis that a given % always renews, so when the board sees the figures they go...."beauty, that'll do us", based on the fact that these people are so called geniuses with big reputations.
The board obviously ignored the "blind Freddy" factor regarding the GFC and NSW depression. So when no one buys the "Gold" package they say gee..."didn't see that one coming".Comment

MEMBERSHIP numbers have plummeted, but Swans coach Paul Roos says his team is under no extra pressure to perform this winter to stay relevant in the crowded Sydney sporting market.
Then this pops up out of nowhere...'it doesn't matter' (assuming it is what he actually said)
One wonders what this change of heart portends in the mind of our coach. He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

Sounds like Roosey needs to go to bed with a warm glass of milk.Comment

"We've had six strong years and for some reason that hasn't converted into memberships," Roos said.
Well, if that's the case, why on earth did the club decide to jack up some of the membership fees in the middle of an economic downturn?Comment

It certainly makes you wonder about the viability of another team in Sydney."Notwithstanding the sight of all our miseries, which press upon us and take us by the throat, we have an instinct which we cannot repress, and which lifts us up." - PascalComment
