Not sure about that. The circumstances are a bit different to Fosdike given that injuries have forced him to retire. He was contracted and generally clubs are obliged to pay out all contracted amounts even if a player is unable to continue.

While injuries may have been part of Kennelly's decision, if he is off to play Gaelic footy, it is hard for him to argue that he is not just quitting on his contract. In which case I would be surprised if the club is obliged to pay him his entitlements for 2009. And if they don't have to pay them, they won't fit into either last year's or this year's salary cap.

I also suspect that we won't be entitled to promote a rookie to cover Kennelly's spot on the list, assuming any warrant it. Fosdike probably qualifies to go onto the LTIL for the season. Kennelly probably won't. If a player retires for non-injury purposes, he can't just be replaced with a rookie.

After last week's strenuous denials, I do want to hear what the club and Tadgh have to say about this this afternoon.

I'd been all excited thinking that the Swans Reserves would be competitive in Canberra this year.

However, with the firsts pinching all our players it now looks like a tough season.

          Defo. Will be interesting.

All the best to him anyway. Served the club very well. Can't begrudge a man for taking a massive pay cut to go home to his family, friends and a game he loves.

Totally agree (except possibly for the last bit). These day it's almost unsportsmanlike to go amateur.

But it seems very sudden. Even the club last week was claiming it wasn't true.

Thanks for the memories, Tadgh: especially those two goals in 2005 against the Lions and in the GF.

I wonder who the Irish papers are tipping for September as they really seem to know what's going on.

They certainly know a lot about the Swans. Maybe they can give us an update on Leo's knee.

Of course they know what's going on, is that not their job?

After the last couple of years when every up and coming star of the GAA has been courted by AFL clubs it's big news when the most successful export of them all decides to return home early, to try his hand at the native game.

                      Exactly.

It's a feel-good news story for them, it's no different to the Australian media reporting on Jelena Dokic's comeback...

Does anyone believe this garbage? Last week he was rarin to go and give us one last grand season. Today its back to Mum a wreck of a man. Of course his role as an ambassador will continue!!!

He explained: ?For the last six months I?ve been involved in a kind of ambassador role between the two organisations.

                        And this gem:

?I was one of the lucky players to have travelled out to a club who did everything possible to make the transition as smooth and painless as possible on and off the field.

                        Yep thanks for the thanks.

?I want to help show that there are pitfalls for young players travelling out to work with clubs and players to see how this can be addressed to the benefit of everyone.?

Presumably that will include some stern warnings about the sharp practise of breaching a contract.

?It is so professional. There are so many things I want to bring back to help make GAA more attractive to youngsters than say soccer or rugby. I learnt so much and can?t wait to put it into practice.?

Presumably this means he will take up a well paying sinecure with the GAA which induced the breach of contract.

But don't worry the Bloods are a club of lions led by donkeys. Colless is so weak he will probably carry your bags to the plane and sing Danny Boy as he waives you and our contract rights off.
Tadgh old son you certainly have borne out the saying by George Bernard Shaw - If you put an irishman on a spit you can always find another irishman to turn him. Not much loyalty to a club when it really needed you to be a senior player to stand up and help the youngsters like Stewie Maxfield, Williams, Kelly etc helped you. And hopefully Cork crushes Kerry in this years championship

Yeah, I'll take two of those with sauce thanks.

Begrudge a man who is under a signed contract?

Is he taking a pay cut? A contract IS a contract.
Why didn't he retire in Sept last year?

I thought the announcement might be that he retires at years end but to go now is a disgrace and George Bernard Shaw's words live on in this day.

It's a BLIGHT on the Club!

Seems the Irish have a problem with understanding contracts. Not worth the trouble of recruiting them.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

Come on ..this is 2009! It's an international world. I live in Thailand and can talk to my daughter in Australia every day on skype with a webcam and say hello to the kids. I have closer more regular contact than I ever had with my grandparents. What about "chat"? Then surely on his salary he can afford the airfare home during the break ? Send the family a video online etc etc.

I don't buy it..He must have already decided to go back last year and simply wanted this year's pay as well and as Conolly says Colless will probably give it to him .
In my book it's letting down the team, the supporters and refusing to take on the responsibility of a senior player. Frankly I am dissappointed as I think the Swans warrant better treatment and more respect.

Our club administrations are level pegging at the moment hoppy. Maybe the roos should locate to ireland. There are enough ex-Bloods there to give your enangered species a boost. As for the club that your mob couldn't shoot or root out of existence, we survived the treachery of Aylett and Casey. Kenneally just joins a very long queue of losers and users who passed through the club. He gets the John Pitura award.
