You're missing the point. The resentment felt by Swans supporters about Hawthorn's trading comes from the AFL's response to our recruiting of Tippett and Franklin. We lost CoLA and were hit with a 2-year trade ban. The reasons appear to have been a combination of McGuire's agitations and Fitzpatrick's fit of pique. No cogent explanation has ever been provided. "The Swans can't have everyone" doesn't quite cut it.

Meanwhile, year after year, Hawthorn picks up a star player, usually from a struggling club, and the AFL evinces not the slightest concern. Even when they appear to be heading for their fourth consecutive premiership.

Yes, everything Hawthorn has done is within the rules. But then, the same is true of the Swans. So forgive me if I can't just say good luck to them.

Dane Rampe. Got homesick, left Williamstown to come back to the local Sydney league and then onto the swans. I've been super-impressed with the way he has played this season. Must have given up the ciggies.

The trade ban is one of the most disgusting things the AFL have ever done. It was the moment I realized the AFL are corrupt and look after their own interests. The umpiring for Hawthorn and the complete disregard the AFL have for this issue reinforced it.

The fact that the media aren't screaming about the fact Hawthorn take holidays with umps (Almost singing their praises) speaks volumes.

According to On The Couch tonight the Eagles are into Mitchell along with half a dozen other clubs.

More chances to get a better deal out of it I suppose. Anyone but Hawthorn.

That's the point I've made in a few threads. We were within the rules and we lost Mummy, Mal, White, Everitt, Membrey etc., (as we already can't have everyone) and yet we get an inexplicable trade ban (so we can't have anyone instead) to appease Victorian clubs. Hawthorn get players from other clubs repeatedly and it is skillful trading?

Well Said!! Hawthorn have a great recruitment team and we are a bunch of cheats and need to be penalised!!!

Well, the AFL never accused us of cheating.
What they did was try to 'level the playing field' by unfairly penalising us.
If anything, comparisons should be drawn to GWS, who's massive annual windfalls have created the monster they are becoming.
Not sure what any of this has to do with Hawthorn, or the Kangaroos, or Carlton etc etc.
They are making the best trades for their clubs. If they are taking advantage of they system, good n them, we certainly took it for all it was worth when we could.

They blocked us from trading because we'd ripped buddy from GWS and weree about to get patful.

Now that GWS are going well on the field, it won't happen again.

Hawthorn's salary cap will normalise next year (as will ours) when the veteran list disappears. I believe from what I've read that they have five veterans on their list in 2016 allowing them to sit about $635,000 outside their total player payments this season. We can't complain about that as the Swans have also gained benefit from the veterans allowance - it was one of the factors that allowed us the cap space to recruit Tippett & Buddy. I think the Swans are probably down to two veterans this year - McVeigh and Richards. So the change in this won't have much effect on us next year.

If that is meant to be a justification for what the AFL did to us, it still needs a bit of work.
