Mitchell watch

I like Mitchell. I think the Swans have put a lot in to him, and made him what he is. To a degree I see him as the Bjorn Borg (had the skills trained into him) type rather than the McEnroe type (full of natural talent)
But if we had to lose one of him, Parker, Kennedy or Hannebery, it would be Mitchell - particularly if we can bring someone in who adds something different to the team.
I'd suggest that Richards and McVeigh retire
Derickx delisted
Other trade bait MAY be Reid, McGlynn and a couple of reserves players who haven't broken in to the side and might ask to leave to get a gig.
Could be an interesting end of year...

What? were you scrolling back 16 pages in this thread to look for a comment that you could make use of?
Back then McVeigh was not playing great football.
He's come good for now. Maybe he takes a while to work his way back into form, maybe he has patches.
Look at Teddy. Very easy to find yourself without a place in the team because somebody better is keeping you out.
For now McVeigh keeps his spot, but I'd say he'll pass the captaincy on next year. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

lol, I have no idea who the trolls are here.
Only one who sticks out is unmentionable, who isn't here.
Aside from that every now and then I have disagreements with some RWOers, who are probably pretty surprised that I act as if nothing happened a few days later.
That's because I don't really think about who said what and keep records...The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

You quoted me from 1 /12 months ago as if I said it today?

McVeigh is all class and will retire on his terms. He's no Dean @@@@en Towers that's for sure!

Just watched this. Mitchell snr makes it sound like it's just a money thing between Tom and the club.

Feels like he wants to stay but $$ aren't there. Swans will stand their ground given the financial commitments to Buddy, Parker and Hanners and are likely to have with Kennedy, Mills and Heeney over the next few years. List Management is a tough job and sometimes you have to stick to your guns. If Mitchell stays, great; if not, we have Mills, Heeney and Hewett ready to join the midfield as a tough inside ball winning magnet which will free up spots around the ground for the next lot of youngsters. It's why the Swans have been able to stay at or near the top without significant drop off. Make the tough calls and don't let sentiment stand in the way. We saw it with O'Keefe and to a certain extend early on in Goodes' final year. We're also seeing it with Teddy this year.Comment

Towers, I think, has found his feet. He doesn't look like a kangaroo stuck in your headlights any more.
McFantastic can play another two years if he wants. Bottom line - he's a friggen trooper. I'm probably the most critical here... he always contributes, even when he's having a bad game, he still contributes.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Yeah, I thought I'd laid it on with the proverbial trowel. But anyway, no matter. Dean's twelve games this year have been pretty serviceable, averaging 19 touches a game and chiming in with almost a goal a game. My only issue with him is I keep getting him mixed up with X. Do these blokes look the same, or do I need to go to the eye shop. Either way it'd be great if we can turn one or both of them into Jack Gunston. That'd be very handy down forward.

Dean is going well; the one thing I'd like to see him do more often is use his pace to tackle the ball carrier. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I haven't checked the figures, but my impression is that Xav is currently a more reliable kick than Gunston, as well as being bigger and as fast if not faster. Changing ends means he has quickly become a very valuable asset.
