Maxfield is still looking very fit.... maybe we should get him out of the fluro yellow and get him back in R&W, surely would be better than the current #11 and his toughness and raking left footers from on the run outside 50 could surely render some spirit!!!!!!

Hahaha thats the identical thing I said to my neighbours at yesterday game. Even more freaky though, the two people that sat next to me yesterday in the Bradman stand were the exact people that sat next to me a month ago @ Etihad stadium vs the Roos. Talk about a spooky coincidence.

Bird could be back by next week, though I guess he may get a run in the resrves first. After that things start to look up, with Thornton maybe coming back to the ressies too:

                1 week: McGlynn, Bradshaw
                2 weeks: Mumford, Bird
                3 weeks: Moore

Bradshaw will be back next week according to Roos. Surely McGlynn will be available with Bird and Mumford ready the next week.

im not sure craig bird is an immediate selection. We have a plethora of mids especially those who play on in inside and i think he will have to fight it out with Hanners, Kennedy, Smith for a spot.

                    This Week

                    In: MyGlynn, Bradshaw
                    Out: Playfair, Beavan

                    Next Week
                    In: Mummy
                    Out: White

If we were to bring Bird straight back in who would go out? Rohan? then we dont really have enough forwards or we have to play our best mids (McVeigh, O'Keefe) forward. Otherwise Bird is competing with Hanners, Kennedy or Smith for a spot in the midfield and for mine they have all done enough to keep their spots. Or Richards is out and Smith plays back but then we will be lacking in height. If we were to drop jetta our midfield would be pretty darn slow

No, he should have been left in the forward line where he plays best. Pyke should have been in the ruck all day, would have been far better.

When Bird is ready, he'll be straight back in the team. IMHO he is easily in our best 22 and from what we've seen in the past, the coaching staff think the same. Nick Smith can also be effective closing down a small/medium forward, ROK can be effective further up the field (or roaming) if his contract permit$, Jetta and Rohan - who knows what they'll do yet ? The (nominal) structure will depend on who we are playing when he comes back and who else we get back by then.

Why would White be out for Mummy? Mummy coming back in will allow White to play in the forward line as part of the forward structure that got us to 5-1 after six rounds.
So what if he's not kicking lots of goals, as long as the goals are getting kicked, and he's contributing to that ( which he has been, by creating space and dragging a tall defender around with him).

As much as I am a fan of Bird, he'll be given at least one, probably a couple of games in the ressies first, and more if needed. He has been out a long time and will have lost some fitness. He's definitely in our best 22, but that's when he's firing on all cylinders, and he probably won't be, at least not to start.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

Birdy is automatic when ready, way ahead of Jetta or Rohan at this stage. Smitty can play back pocket and probably wont play midfield much until Kirky and Jude chuck it in.

Can I ask a question to the reserves watchers? does Currie have the natural footy smarts? Does he naturally have a feel for where the ball is going and an awareness of where his team mates are?

I have a fear of what Sandilands could do to us at the SCG (3 of his "taps" on Friday night went 30 metres lol), I just think not only will he dominate the taps, he will also swallow Pyke up a little too easily, I know the footy world is in love with Natanui, but watching Sandilands these days is a true footy pleasure.

I know it would be a baptism of fire for Currie, but sometimes with the younger players, you can throw them into these situations with one job "Keep Sandilands as quiet as humanly possible" and it can work..but seeing I haven't watch much of him at all, it's hard to make that call.
