The Swans did me a favour... didn't know what I was going to get Dad... Swans Finals tickets was the great answer!

I'm an avid fan, but I won't be there on Sunday. Boo Hoo. Not because it isn't at the SCG, but because it is Father's Day. There's no way that I can scoot off to Sydney (two hours travel each way) when my hubby, who is a nominal fan, will be having his special day. I suppose you guys can imagine the difficulty you might have had if it was Mothers Day?
But....I will be parked in front of the TV with the phone off the hook and the kids gagged or locked outside.
Certainly, I love the SCG (great the hear the chant week before last - first time I've heard it this year), but I can tell you that if I was one of the people who missed out on tickets because the SCG was sold out, I'd be pretty annoyed. At least at ANZ, everyone who wants to go is guaranteed to get tickets, and the potential for a bigger crowd is there.Comment

Swans first, daughters (all members) second, he (not a member) a distant third.
I love him to bits but he is VERY used to losing Fathers/Mothers day to my boys.
Heavens above, he has us for six months of the year!Comment

I'm just not quite that brave!
After 23 years, I'm still maintaining the illusion that he comes before the Swans. I did hint that it might be a good activity to do together, however our last attempt at that wasn't a success.
I hadn't thought of phrasing it as quality time with the kids, but my hubby is very hands-on with our five so an afternoon of having them to himself is no treat.
I'm just consoling myself that the boys will be there again in the years to come, sometime when I don't have all the kids at home.
So, those of you who are there, spare a thought for us as we show our support in our lounge rooms.Comment

At least they serve a quality Villi's pie at Homebush - all peppery and yum - not that salty rat coffin we get at the SCG. (should the great pie debate have its own thread?) At least the chips will be crap (like at the G) to make us feel more at home.
And if those short sighted money hungry goons at the AFLHQ had any foresight at all they'd give away 20,000 level 6 tickets @ $10 each to attract some new supporters - make an investment in the code here. That'd be $200,000 versus the big fat $0 they'll get upstairs without some promotion. Even some leaugies might come with cheap seats available...Comment

Not having a go at you Swandering, just the pressure society puts on us to make something out of days like this. Carn Swans!!Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

I'd be happy with 40K, but with bad pricing options (esp for a Sunday game, hardly seen as an event by a casual fan) and forecasted rain, coupled with a massive weekend of NRL, we could be relying on travelling Carlton fans to get us over 30K....
I get the reasoning why, but the AFL really should have bit the bullet and given Freo the Sunday game.Comment

Your kidding supporters pay hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars a year to watch the Swannies play and now that they are in the finals we are worried about a bit of rain, or its a Sunday game, or there is some rugby matches on and fathers day well its fathers day all day so either get it over and done with in the morning or do something after the game, but get real and go and support our team cause if it is a close game we just might need all the support we can to get them across the line. You never here Melbourne Storm or Victory supporters worring that there is an AFL match on the same day they just go and support there team.Comment

Not bad, not bad. I think they would be rapt if the crowd hit 40k. I think they should have done some type of special Father's Day Family package and really plugged it. I guess very hard with such short notice. Plus I would imagine Finals Ticket pricing is very regulated. 20k as of this morning - you would surely bank on it hitting 35k at a minimum?

I think you might be giving Storm and Victory a little too much credit btw! Swans hardcore base is much larger than the Storm and Victory's.Comment

wow managed to get my tickets today - it only took 1 hour and 20 mins. We had a new guy at ticketek on the phone (after internet wouldnt take my membership number) any way phone call started at 1010am at 11am we are about to finalise the sale but the system wouldnt let him process the tickets after 11am!! (cut off time for members)so the operator says sorry those tickets are no longer available. Well wasnt I impressed...another 20mins with the supervisor and all sorted. Im happy I have similar position to my reserve seats in 126/1.
Given its Carlton I reckon we could be looking at 65000+ uweather depending.
Cheers
