Simply if they cant show more than above average ability in the canberra league they arent going to make it in the AFL.

Guys like Vez were not the victim of some sort of campaign against them , they were the victims of themselves in thinking that talent alone could get you regular games at AFL level. Hopefully a change of club will see a change of attiitude.
Podsiadly was a pretty late call up, and I don't know if he had any previous time in firsts - but he'd be the exception that proves the rule.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I knew there would be someone dug up . I was referring more to the canberra league. The old afl reserves was a somewhat different concept and quality to the canberra league but I guess my point is the likes of dipper and podsiadly to a lesser extent are the exceptions not the rule.

Beau Dowler delisted by the Hawks (along with a lot of other players, huge clear out at Hawthorn). I wouldn't mind sticking him on the rookie list and having him as a backup tall, similar to what Playfair did for us this year.

What? Sit around, get a game or two, break something, retire and coach?

            Asking a bit much isn't it? :-D

Someone's got to take over the Playing Fair segment for the website. How does Dowler's Down-low sounds?

Isn't that what we traded for Setanta for?

Played against him and saw a lot of him through the juniors. Couldn't believe how high he went in the draft at the time and I'm not surprised that he has struggled to make it. Really nice bloke but just not up to it.

Hmmm. Peterson is an interesting one....wonder if Goodsy and Micky O could work a bit of Magic with him?

I'd take a punt on Ediriwickrama with a rookie pick. VERY highly rated when drafted, but plagued by injruies. Given he has only spent 2 years outside of NSW, would he be eligible for a NSW pre-selection?
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

How about "getting the low down-ler"?

Very good player but apparently Hawthorn don't even know where he is

That's 2 clubs he burnt now so I doubt he'll be getting a 3rd chance

Agreed - seems like the guy doesn't want to play AFL or at least isn't cut out for it. I'd be interested to hear any analysis on Ediriwickrama and whether he's worth a spot....

I know my mate was disappointed that Ediriwickrama went to Geelong and if I remember correctly he predicted he would be back. I remember watching him play in an amateur game yonks ago and thought that he looked likely. Somewhat finely built (think TDL) but quick. Perhaps he would be worth a punt on a rookie list, if he is interested.

As for Peterson; probably not worth it. Aardvark noted perhaps Goodsey or MickyO could do something with him, but these are guys who turned up for their first years training ahead of schedule and got stuck into it from day one. Don't know if this correlates with Peterson's record.

Such a shame, he really is a super talent.
