NAB Challenge matches may have attracted a free Melb Members entry status - But I believe NAB Cup matches continue to attract an admission fee, starting at about $21 General Admission or up to $32 for reserved seating?

Not sure how appealing it is to pay to see a dropped pie procession in late Summer?

I think certain memberships get you free entry into NAB Cup games, but I'm pretty sure my bottom of the line, pleb membership doesn't.
Maybe his Holiness is on the money.

Just checked, Full Blooded Platinum only for free entry. Looks like us "Plebs" will have to pay.

              In: O'Keefe, Grundy
              Out: McNeil

An extra in because we only had 28 players last week after Grundy pulled out of the original side.

Here's an exercise for your mind - 29 players here, add 5 more certain starters when they are fit (C Bolton, Kennelly, Bradshaw, LRT, Mumford) = 34.

Now give me the 12 names you are taking off that 34 to make our best 22.

18 on the field, 6 interchange, 2 subs and 3 emergencies? If so I guess emergencies won't be named till 24 hours beforehand.

Some of those 12 are quite easy to nominate. Except that it needs to be 13 because Smith is another, if not certain starter, certainly strong contender. (For me he is a definite in.)

Two ruckmen - at this stage Currie and Pyke.

At least one tall forward - ie Johnston or Reid (and with White certainly in the mix but not in the group we are removing players from). If Goodes is to be played predominantly as a forward, maybe both come out, even if White is also out. Though I'd like to think we can fit at least one of White, Johnston and Reid in, even with Goodes and Bradshaw.

At least one tall backman - sadly it is probably Ted, though he has a few weeks to prove it shouldn't be.

                      Lamb.

Probably Sumner, though he too could make things hard for the selectors if he can keep last week's form up.

At least two HBFers, especially if Rohan and Everitt are also filling that position. The group we are choosing from includes Rohan, Everitt, Sumner (on last week's position), Shaw, Malceski, Kennelly, Mattner. A couple might fit elsewhere in the team but they simply don't all fit into 22. I suspect Mattner and Everitt are fighting for one spot at best, assuming a fit squad. And if Sumner keeps his foot in the door, it might be at the expense of Shaw.

At least one, maybe two, small / medium forwards - ie Bevo, TDL, Moore, McGlynn. Hard to see McGlynn not being in the team (and he's probably the most versatile and almost a midfielder).

At least one, if not two, "young peripheral midfielders" - Bird, Parker, Meredith. Need to see another three weeks to work out the likely pecking order, but you'd think Bird would have his nose in front.

I've lost count of how many I'm up to!

First Pass ..... 7. Brett Meredith, 10. Daniel Currie, 11. Jed Lamb, 20. Sam Reid, 22. Byron Sumner, 23. Lewis Johnston, 26. Luke Parker
Next pass ..... 38. Mike Pyke, 39. Heath Grundy, 42, Paul Bevan
Wow pass ..... 33. Jarred Moore
(I don't think he is fit) pass ..... C Bolton

There's your 12 - and I am not a Grundy or Bevan fan, nor a hater of said boys ... I just value other players higher
Mike Pyke misses, because there is just too much tall (lumbering) timber, although I did entertain the idea of swapping him with LRT ... (briefly)
Jarred, sorry pal, a regretful miss - and C Bolts will not be fit ....

Ooops, missed Nick Smith, he is a certainty (if fit) as our midfield shutdown man. Not sure White is a certain top 22 at this stage but has time to force his way in which I would love him to do.

Liz, I like your mind exercises, not easy is it?

I'm thinking round 1 vs Melbourne who ran all over us at our meeting last year and the need for more speed from us this time. Slow leg speed players may not be required - hmmmm

Meredith, Currie, Lamb, Johnston,Parker, Moore, Pyke, Bevan, J Bolton, TDL, Rohan, Reid. I would have left Richards out on last years form but he was OK last week. Add Bolton, LRT and Kennelly and you have too many backs. To clarify I have left out TDL because I am not convinced of his consistency and ability against tough backmen. Bolton is the slowest on the list and the way the game has evolved I find it hard to include him on this point. Pyke is the 3rd ruckman, Meredith is too slow and doesn't get his hands on the footy enough and Moore and Bevan are top up players. With a fit list the backline players will be fighting hard for their spots.
