Don't agree with debutants being dropped after one game...unless it is an absolute howler....particularly considering the wait LJ has had.

Obviously you didn't watch the last quarter of the Eagles win earlier in the season.

I did

After having no impact for 3 qtrs (except for errors in the backline) he was moved forward, kicked 2 nice goals, one was the clincher, the other was after the game was already over. Nothing to change my mind on what he offers to the squad (i.e. very little)

Maybe you could watch his last performance against Hawthorn - 4 possessions in 4 quarters of football, and one of them was in the first 2 minutes of the match. We haven't seen a game like that from anyone since Paul Chambers was on our list.

Don't get me wrong as I think Everitt has all of the talent in the world, but the reality is that he does not have the application or fortitude to be anywhere near the senior squad at the moment, and I'm not sure he ever will.

I noticed on Tuesday that Longmire had Grundy working one on one with LJ. They were working on body positioning for marking contests.Grundy is still stronger and was obviously the teacher. Nice to watch tho...LJ is getting bigget and stronger daily. He'll make it.

To be honest I was a little afraid for LJ this week after seeing what Merrett did during the Crows game and feared he might be made the scapegoat if Merrett started pushing him around. But looking at the Reserves' matchups against the Lions Reserves, there is a very good chance that LJ could be used in defence in that game, which will not help his chances of a recall to the seniors.

I think Everitt is a little stronger in the upper body than LJ, but to be perfectly frank both have little idea in the one-on-one wrestling contests. I still think it's viable to have Everitt, Reid and LJ in the same forward line and perhaps rotate the trio around positionally as they are all good, hard leads.

I think we could see LJ back for the Richmond game next week - their backline would probably be a better match-up for him than Brisbane's.....

I don't think we should even be looking for one, the only reasons why you'd try to match up on a key defender is if our midfield took to blindly kicking floaties into the forward line . . . . . . . . er

Ok, I just realised that we do need to match up on Merrett because that seems about all our midfield seems currently capable of.

But if our midfield was capable of a modicum of accuracy with their dieposal then they should NEVER kick it near him. And of course whichever forward Merrett goes to should spend the day runing him up and down the ground in an effort to cause him to blow up. In which case we wouldn't need to matchup on him.

I found it too confusing having a Johnson and Johnston in the same team so I am ok with this.

I'm not sure they didn't drop the wrong one, Brisbane usually play 3 talls up forward Clark, Brown & Retzlaff. I think LRT, Grundy and Ted could handle them. So do we need Everitt and Johnson instead of Johnston?

Parker for TDL seems a reasonable change, certainly the kid will get more ground time this week.

I mean the priority of a forward is to kick goals, right? Shouldn't the match-up on our forwards be the opposition's problem?

If we're picking our forwards based on their ability to defend against opposition defenders, then I think that's being too defensive. It may explain why we kick such low scores though.

The replacements are Bird, Johnson, Kennelly, Malceski, Roberts-Thompson and Trent-Lane.

If PLAN A was to have White as the strong forward presence, and Bevan and Rohan both capable at the front, what is PLAN B - 10 matches in - for the forward structure? Some positional changes for Everitt; but a big ask for TDL in his first game back.

Everitt will be playing forward, LRT will be playing ruck, Johnson hasn't put a foot wrong.

Interesting turn of events.... reading Voss talking of wanting the Lions to emulate the Swans.

It was about 9 years ago that Roos made the same statement in reverse, saying he wanted the Swans to emulate the Lions.

No doubt Vossy remembered this approach, looked at what transpired over the following seasons, and decided to plagiarise directly from the 'Roos school of coaching manual'.
