Here some food for thought. I imagine we all salivate at the prospect of Chris Dawes in our forward line but if the measure of a key forward is their ability to kick goals then Dawes isnt that far ahead of White .
Dawes Debut Age 20yrs - White debut age 20 years
Yr 2008 6gm 5 gls 2gms 0 goals
Yr 2009 4gm 5 gls 18gms 20 goals
Yr 2010 20gms 31gls 20gms 22 goals
yr 2011 13 gms 21 goals 7 gms 7 goals
total 43 gms 62 goals 47 gms 49 goals
Considering that for a lot of that period White is in an inferior team to Dawes and played in the ruck a fair bit then the figures dont really support that Whites no good at all. It seems that Dawes averages only slightly more than 1 goal a game yet we think hes a superstar and white a dud? Tell me what I am missing - yes I know Dawes takes more marks but if at the end of the day they dont convert to goals then what are they really worth.Comment

Actually you raise a good point, it's quite interesting. Dawes has averaged better than a mark per quarter in his 4 seasons. In Jesse's only fullish season as a forward, he also average a mark per quarter. Since he started splitting his time between the forward line and the ruck his marks per game average has gone from 4 in 2009, to 3 last year and 1.4 this season.
Which is quite odd, because throwing an underperforming forward into the ruck (Tom Hawkins) is often seen as a way to get them more involved. It doesn't seem to have worked for Jesse.
Which is interesting.Comment

Hell, he was the only incentive for me to go to some games.
White is not remotely in the same league.Comment

It would also be interesting to see stats on how many marking contests Dawes is involved in per game compared to White. Dawes may not kick big bags, but is rarely beaten in a 1 on 1 marking contest. Can at least bring the ball to ground. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Jesse.
IMO as a full forward there is no point taking a stack of marks but not turning them into goals or not creating something from them.
What I think is unfair is that on one hand people are sending one players career to the grave while claiming the other is a potential topliner. I still believe Dawes is the better player but as I said the stats dont support that White is necessarily hopeless in comparison.
I think the thing that dissapoints most people including me is that two seasons ago he looked like he could be anything and his size , athletic ability and speed suggest that he should be much better than he currently looks but he doesnt seem to utilise all those attributes on the field. Its almost like he doesnt realise that hes bigger, faster and probably stronger than most of his opponents yet at times he plays like a ten pound weakling.Comment

The Age today has an article about goalkicking accuracy. Our most accurate set shot is Ben McGlynn with 18.5 at 78.3%. Our most accurate overall is Jesse White with 7.3 at 70%. Not quite in the same class as Saints' Jack Steven with 5.0 at 100% and Luke Ball overall 10.1 at 90.9%. Will Jesse get the chance to enhance? Probably not, unless the Spangher experiment fails and we keep picking one ruckman.
Let's get this straight
Unfortunately it doesn't have the club-by-club chart. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Absolutely. Simon pulled down marks and kicked straight. In a team that lost more than it won, altho no one ever asked him to play in the ruck, so the comparison to white is a bit tough on Jessse. After last night I guess they will go with Spangher for a while and see if he gets up to AFL speedYou can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment

Based on his efforts today I wouldn't be at all surprised if we have seen the last of him in the seniors.. Many have called for him to have a whole game at FF.. Today he had 3 quarters in the forward line with LRT doing the backup ruck role and he still had very little impact.. Roosy said it on the commentary.. He just doesn't read the play well.. That is being kind..Comment
