Yep, said all along that if Malthouse wanted to come then we'd be mad not to try to get him here. It's a moot point anyway because I don't think he'll be coaching anyone next year.

Judging by the animated replays of him in the Box, he was even more furious than anyone on here....

When you have the basic skill errors that we had on the weekend and the almost non existent forward pressure and tackling... no one could coach our team to victory.

We will continue to be hot and cold until our forward line functions and our midfield can function... you only start blaming the coach if the team doesn't at least develop over two seasons.

What? Besides refuting your assertion that Chris Scott is the sole reason the Cats are still dominating the competition? Yeah, he may have a smart footy brain but when you've got Selwood, Bartel, Scarlett, Chapman, Johnson, Ottens, Corey, Ling, Mackie, Kelly et al in your team, you are still going to be more than competitive. I wouldn't hand out praise to their supposed managerial expertise, rather I would say they still possess the second most talented list in the comp and are determined to make up for their humiliating end last year.

Which means the timing for Malthouse to Sydney at the end of next season is tantalising....Assuming, as I suspect, the Swans go nowhere next year.

It would be nice if the pro Longmire contingent wouldn't resort to the straw man every time

"Pro Longmire" is a leap. Any realist would know that ANY first year coach with a young team will get at least two seasons. Considering the history I think we can expect at least three seasons before he'd be called unless the results were Port disastrous or there was a Ricky Nixon-like scandal. This year they are not disastrous - it's just a very disappointing way to finish. So Horse is our coach to at least the end of 2013 I'd say. However, as the players have to work out what to do to get 2012 looking good I hope Horse looks at his coaching style and his team and makes hard decisions that make improvements there, too. I think we have a team that can be Top 4 - and challenging for a flag if they are kicking to a functional forward line. To get a flag they all need some deep soul searching and I hope that's what they are doing right now in match review.

What I think most of what you call the pro Longmire contingent are saying is that you cant blame the coach for all that happened on the weekend. He has a group of players that are not in the elite skill level of the top 4. Yes there is hopefully some promise coming thru but its not going to happen this year, or next year.

There are lots of suggestions about bringing in 1 or 2 players week to week and dropping others, but if you seriously think that we lost to the Tigers on the weekend because of that then I have to question wether you watched the game? We had 21 out there and the majority of them didnt aim up in just about every fundamental area of playing footy (no matter what code!).

If Longmire didnt get upset at what was going on I would question him as well, but he was clearly going off in the box and his post match interview was pointed (correctly) at lack of intensity, lack of skills, poor decision making and the need for some new blood that is coming back from injury for those that didnt put in.

So its not that I love or hate Longmire, I havent seen enough of him to know that yet, but I have seen enough of the 'current' players in just about every game this year (and for the last few years) to know that there aint no Swans, Pendelburys, Thomas, etc amongst them that make us anywhere near a flag team, regardless of Horse or Malthouse coaching.

SPC that's my point - we have seen every player out there play so much better than they did yesterday. If Swan, Pendelbury and Thomas played with the lack of passion and skill that our lot showed yesterday they would be thrashed by Richmond, too. When Jack, Hanners, Benny and Mummy have a premiership to their name they will be regarded as stars, too. Every Swans player was way down yesterday - think of Jude, Marty, Rhyce, Kennedy at their best this year vs what they dished up yesterday. Maybe it's a young team getting tired or the loss last week sucking the life out of the team but it was the players' fault that they lost. Whether that is a function of the coach, youth or leadership will have to be sorted by those who know. But I think the attendance this weekend will be pathetic with as many Saints fans as Swans and I think the club have to have a serious look at what's wrong, unless the psych team say its merely exhaustion at the end of the season. Then it's a fitness issue. So Horse has work to do but it's not his job on the line. It may be the end for some players though - Tadhg, Jude, Mal would have to be under review and may be playing their contracts out in the 2s next year.

I think we have the next lot of footy stars in the team right now but they have to start playing that way for entire games for an entire season.

It might not be so far-fetched to persuade him to come up here. Malthouse made some very respectful comments about us earlier this year, saying he was "in awe of the Sydney footy club", and what we'd been able to achieve. Might be something there to build on.

He's been talking up the Swans for at least the last 6 years. If he's available at the end of next season, and we do badly.....it's a strong possibility.

"Port Adelaide's reigning best-and-fairest winner Kane Cornes has been told he won't be required at the club next year.

I've said before, as have you, that if he's available I'd take him in a heartbeat. Nothing against Longmire, but if the best coach in the land wants to coach the Swans you'd be crazy to not have him coaching the Swans.

For the Hawkins fans, note the last line:

The White Maggot understands Scott?s closing remarks ? ?if you?ve got any idea what the @@@@ I should do with Tom Hawkins, please make yourself known to me? ? are not the subject of legal action.
