Just remember Al not so long ago he kicked 10 in the ressies then next week had 2 possessions in the seniors.

Limp atmosphere at the game. Swans looked like they weren't confident at all.

Not much the swans could do in the last quarter. It was one of the most childish exhibitions of AFL I have seen. Swans kept 4 or 5 players out of the flood in that last quarter but poor goal conversions with limited opportunities made things look a lot worse.

If the GWS keep playing like that to prevent blowouts they won't win many fans.

      Jetta good. Everitt bad.

Very disappointing. Still can't kick to a team mate. Still can't kick more goals than behinds. I was so bored in the last quarter.
I might need a week off to get enthusiasm back.

I agree - we are partly to blame for the atmosphere.

I don't think confidence was a problem - it was just that they found it hard to motivate themselves to play at their high-octane best.
The winning margin was about two goals shy of what I expected , but never mind.

Most importantly - Congratulations to FREMANTLE : your club song is now officially only the SECOND-worst in the AFL !

I love their song but different strokes I guess.

Atmosphere always has to do with the game. We were expecting an avalanche of points and what we got was sloppy play against a commited and overtly defensive opponent.

Certainly wasn't a great atmosphere. The playing surface looked slippery, the grass too long and it's not a great ground for spectator views.

Definitely one-sided umpiring, at least for about three quarters.

GWS basically employed a lot of bash-and-crash tactics and flooded (or got "numbers behind the ball") all night. I'm sure this was Sheedy's/William's way of avoiding a blow-out.

Still a much better effort from them than I expected and a much worse one from us. Our forward structure is still sorely lacking but our backline was fairly well organised.

                  Disappointing sums it up.

The atmosphere reminded me a bit of that game we played against them at Blacktown in last year's NAB Cup - there wasn't any.

It was like a group of scientists watching an experiment to see what happens.

We'll need them to be competitive before there's any atmosphere at our derbies.

You have summarised everything about the game. Sheedy's backline flooding and our inaccuracy made the last quarter border-line unwatchable.

Yes LRT was in the second ruck got a couple of taps but looked out of touch there. He contested well in the forward line but I still don't see him as the solution there. The idea for most of the night seemed to be bomb it long and hope for the best. The third quarter proved to be the only time we changed tack and look what happened. We kicked to position and advantage whether kicking long or short.

The back line was very good tonight, a very polished performance but Reg and Mal need to be horsewhipped for some of their indiscretions early. Reg twice and Mal once and both atrocious passes that even a junior coach would have been dragging his player for. But all in all a great performance by the back line. Teddy you are wonderful, I loved everything you did tonight, just sensational.

Our mids were getting the ball but being closed down by Palmer, MacDonnald and Ward, having a hard time getting it out of the melee. The umpires chose to give GWS free kicks to alleviate the problem they had caused in the first place. Well done to the Mids for the hard work and the great job they did tonight. I especially want to praise Lewis Jetta as he was really good tonight and if this is any indication of his season to come it will be sensational. Joey, Kizza, Parks, Goodsie, Benny, Bolts all good and of course Mummy who is not only a ruckman but an extra mid. Although I didn't see a lot of Bolts tonight and he seemed to play a lot forward when on. Birdie really good but jeepers creepers when is someone going to show him how to kick for goal!! I also want to see more delivery to the forwards than just bombing in and that applies to the Half Backs too.

Forwards, my this is hard, Reid was unlucky not to have at least ten free kicks and two marks that should have been paid. He still got plenty of it but boy ho boy the kicking! I've seen better actions on twelve year olds. Everitt was really terrible and that mark he went for and just looked silly, what did he think he was doing. Try to take a specky by all means but at least get your knee in the back of opponent first don't miss him completely. He might have kicked a goal but he was very ordinary and has the same problem I mentioned last week, he can't seem to hold his marks. Gary Rohan worked hard but I still don't think he will be the saviour in the forward line to be a foil to Reid. I much prefer him further up the ground as he doesn't get enough ball in the forward line. Most of the goals came from the mids today. Our forward structure sucks and as soon as we can get some specialist forwards back in there the better. ROK, TDL, Lamb & Spang would be nice or maybe Nipper.

That certainly contributed to the atmosphere seeping out of the crowd in the last quarter too. Giants shut up shop completely and unfortunately we didn't manage to overcome it.

I'm already over some of the churlish feedback on here tonight especially during the match ( not directed at your post Longmile BTW). Some of the summaries in the last couple of pages, after the heat of battle, are much more even. I too am disappointed that we didn't put them away by more, I thought we were a bit rusty looking at times, and I'm also terribly disappointed with our goal kicking in the last quarter. However we also did enough to win by 63 point, and GWS should be given some credit for hanging in there. Why get angry?

I liked Jack and Kennedy, and Ted was very classy down back. Jetta seems to be coming along really well.

As to the ludicrous post earlier calling Gary Rohan a sook - for your penance you can sing the Giants team song 10 times over - uncalled for...

I tend to agree with you about anyone calling Rohan a sook, just stupid. I didn't read any of the early posts but I can imagine the frustration. I also agree GWS hung in there but we were our own worst enemy when they flooded. We just bombed it in and hoped. We needed to play the Hawks game of keepies off and then run and deliver. We have the players to do that and Jetts proved that half way through the last, just a pity Everitt dropped a sitter. I also saw one of our players take a hb from Jetts then hb off the other player went right and Jetts had gone left all on his own with a paddock. This is not rocket science and the go is if Jetts is on his own hit him up and watch him flash. I think it was a reasonable hit out but I think if we are going to beat the good sides we had better start improving heaps. But it is early in the season and it is always a bit shabby for most teams in the first two to three weeks.

I still think things will improve with ROK, Spang and Shaw back. Maybe we need to take a risk on Lambie too.

A game where Sydney were rarely out of Third gear, and when they did they slammed on quick goals and kept GWS scoreless for a quarter.
A couple of observations HTB continues to be a lottery as to what will and won't be called, and the kicking yips have returned late in the game, after a decent enough start accuracy wise.
