Good point. Otherwise they would have said academy only surely?Comment

As this article says that we are (as at 29 October) expected to nominate him, then he has 3 weeks to decide, that would tend to explain why us actually nominating him wasn't a news story?it doesn't affect anything until and unless he accepts being nominated.
And also, correct me if I'm wrong, but under the new system being nominated and accepted as a F/S pick doesn't take him off the open market anyway, correct? I appreciate it's a big decision for him because the 'discount' it provides means that he's much more likely to wind up at Sydney than if he rejects the nomination, but with the Mills-and-points situation, the fact remains that if any club in the pick-12-to-18 sorta bracket wants Dunkley, it can pretty much have him (if the whispers are right that Sydney doesn't want to go into 2016 points deficit for him).Comment

As expected today we have Dunkley as a draft prospect on the AFL website.
Not sure when this was written but says he is in continuing discussions with the Swans about nominating as a F/S, draft range 20-40, Swans have the points to match any bid.Comment

Listening to him, I think he won't nominate, he is seeing what Melbourne offers he gets first. The opportunity In Our mid field is less than others. If you really wanted to play where your old man did you'd jump at it.
On another note, it was great to watch the swans of the 80's kick over 200 points this morning on foxtel.Comment

A big bodied, slowish, inside mid with below average disposal....Who obviously isn't overly keen about playing for the Swans...
The 20% discount from a 2nd to 3rd round pick is negligible.
Then take the name out of the equation....hmmm, prefer others....Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

He didn't sound too keen, especially when he used the word opportunities. In reality, he would have a hard time cracking into our midfield. If you compare him to Mills and Hewett, who also have yet to play senior footy, you would have to put him last of the 3. It doesn't mean he won't turn into a good football player, but it may be more attractive to teams like Carlton and Essendon, where he would almost certainly get opportunities next year.
We don't have a midfielder that looks like retiring in the next 3 years, so I wouldn't blame him if he didn't nominate us. I think we should have at least a pick in the low 40s and might find mature age KPDs like Mitch Brown or Michael Hartley available at that time. There are others as well. We really don't need another inside midfielder. As much as I would like to see son of Dunks play for the Swans, perhaps the timing is not right.Comment

I think Mitch Brown would be a great pickup. 25 year old key defender - Ted in his last year next year, Grundy is 29 or 30 - shallow draft pool this year- why not!Comment

I am sure Josh knows, as the Club knows that if he comes to the Swans, chances of playing in the Seniors as long as the other Josh is still running around are not great. A tough, big bodied mid who can get the ball and throw his weight around would be a great pick-up but as Ludwig has said the timing is all wrong, unless he has more patience even than Tom Mitchell! None of the current inside mids (apart from JK) or those waiting in the wings have JD's attributes but it all depends on what skill-sets are needed most for team balance both now and the future.
I would be inclined to suggest he goes to the draft and see how things work out from there.Comment

could be as simple as Josh knowing he will struggle to get game time in Snrs but i really don't know how good or average he is ??"be tough, only when it gets tough"

He doesn't have to play permanently as a midfielder. He could be a HBF or HFF with a bit of time in the midfield. People keep saying he will be behind Hewitt. What evidence is there of this? Hewitt was drafted late in the draft and hasn't troubled the selectors in two years. Dunkley will probably go top 20. Plus our depth is very thin. I would see him probably starting in our best 25 or 26.Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment
