To me, this is outside the AFL's authority.
If Sydney have offered a 2nd round pick, and Adelaide reject it, he can take them to court for breach of contract. Totally outside the AFL. In fact its outside the AFL already.
Whether it breaches AFL draft rules is completely irrelevant to legal contract laws.
The AFL however, may impose its own penalty which might see him sit out 2013. Thats up to them.
The question remains, have Sydney offered the 1st round pick at all ?
Dont think we'll find out until 2pm tomorrow.Comment

Tippett?
ME TOO! Getting right up my Pie loving colleagues and the Geelong (Team of the Century) mates who still can't accept we did it! (Which century?:-) 19th? I keep asking)
We can go back to back with the exciting team we already have. I trust the recruiters and if they say yes to KT so be it.They are legends! If they say no,doesn't worry me a bit..Basking in the glory!!!
And Big Al,like you, nothing can take the sheer joy away.Keep flying the flag Hartijon.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

You know what is particularly galling is the melbourne press led by it seems Quayle and Wilson somehow equating our first round pick and a fringe player from the grand final as a cheap trade that somehow falls into line with that agreement.
The agreement seemingly was for a second round pick alone , not a first round pick and a player. I dont see how this is much undervalue.
It makes me laugh how a fringe player from our premiership team is considered a relative dud (and Im not saying Jesse is a gun, but geez in another team he could very well be a valuable acquisition.), yet other clubs trade fringe players as if they diamonds.Comment

'We sold our soul' on Tippett deal: Reid
I have previously considered Caroline to be an excellent football journalist especially when it comes to the backroom stuff (although her appreciation of the actual game is mediocre).
But frankly her article is so biased in favour of the Crow's one would almost suspect it was written by that journalistic embarrassment, Michelangelo Rucci.
From the tenor of her comments one would suggest that Tippett senior and the kids manager forced the Crows to sign the deal at gunpoint.
The poor Crows were under so much pressure in Adelaide, how could they refuse the naughty Tippett's demands. I haven't seen such a threadbare excuse since Shane Warne blamed his mum for taking a banned substance.
She suggests we're guilty of draft tampering, and only a lack of evidence will save us. That Andrew Ireland has a history of dodgy dealing and that the story only broke because we were trying to gouge the Crows (a claim much at odds with our history of fair-trading, and dependent on an a massive over-rating of the player).
Why she has fallen in line with the dominant anti-Swan mindset of the Victorian media and clubs I can't understand, but she has lost credibility in my eyes.
Lastly can someone please tell me wtf she means by "Sydney . . . . is in reality owned by the AFL?Comment

Up until this morning I was still OK if we ended up with KT despite all that has been revealed. However, if what is being said about his ambitious father being behind this deal is correct, I definitely don't want him. A pushy parent that also knows how to get connections in high places is a real risk to our culture.
When I also read this article ...
... Now saying that the side agreement involves payments to KTs brother, it reinforces my feeling that the Tippett family is not one we need at our club. I get that KT himself was only 22 at the time and may have a good attitude himself, but the baggage of his dad really worries me. Remember what a nice kid Jelena Dokic was? And what a nightmare Damir was? An extreme example I know, but you get my point.Comment

I have no idea - and to be honest the article is completely bizarre. She also provides no evidence at all to suggest any Sydney wrong-doing and yet spends the last half of her article denigrating them. She has always been a muck-raker with little moral integrity, but this is pretty low even by her standards.
I also don't understand why she is creating an image of the AFC as victims. It makes no sense. Perhaps she asked the Tippett's for an interview and they declined and now she uses the media to enact revenge - I wouldn't put it past her.Comment

Well well well....Now the Gold Coast are expressing a change of heart re Tippett.
Let him go I say.
I hope we concentrate on improving our draft position by trading/ helping a few fringe players move for more opportunity.
As premiers, fringe players ....should....carry a little more credibility... We should take advantage while we can.Last edited by ernie koala; 25 October 2012, 05:03 PM.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

A very good point, you have clubs are chasing Martin from Melbourne, who in turn are chasing Pederson from North, yet Jesse IMO has the wood on both of them. And as you say at the very least he's on the fringe of a premiership team.
What silly insular people they areComment

Recruit Tippett to play and his brother as understudy to Kenny.
Kenny is the first man I've seen conduct and look like he's being attacked by a swarm of bees at the same time.Nothing like a good light bulb moment.Comment

Is he a dickhead though? 22 when he did the AFC deal and a deal that was heavily in his favour and negotiated by others. I don't know of anything he has done off field that could put him under the DH banner. I see him as moreso a player who hasn't reached his potential at a club that up until this year was woefully underperforming. Everyone at the club went backwards under Craig. When Tippett is on he is bloody good. I hope we get him over the line because I see him as having a lot of upside and the temperament to fit in well at Sydney.Comment

suns and lions might be making waves to put pressure on the swans the pay some of JW's salary next year...think back to the demons with Ball....all the way they said they were going to select him and ball kept saying dont select me...but the demons stood fast until the day of PSD and did diddly squat....
i think there has been a relative understanding that if a player nominates his club of choice but the trade cant be done he genrally gets through to them in the psd...
it comes back to clubs having a card to play during trade periods...if you were lie what the hawks use to be like, or eagles and pies are now..clubs just wont trade with you..the bombers were renowned for being ridiculous when it comes to trading so no-one really did much...so if the eagles and suns want to play that game and in the future they want something the swans can be like WELL considering you did this to us...you want this then you pay for it now....
alot has been said about having good reputations during trading period..swans have a good one and they know by offering our first pick and white is better than what they according to their deal could ask...so i think in all of this we are being pretty fair...
sa far as C Wilson goes....she is a joke of a reporter...doesn't like us..her article after the grand final was pathetic not once did she actually praise us for winning that game when injured players abound when dug in and won...she needs to go and report on gardening or what tenant has ripped their landlord off....Comment
