Free agency finishes Friday as I understand. I think the AFL did it this way so the 3rd week will be opened up to other trades after the free agency moves go through. But as someone else mentioned way back in the thread it may be the AFL trying to eat into the publicity time for the spring racing carnival. Notice they have as good as floated today that it will 3 on the bench plus a sub with a maximum 80 rotations for 2013. Bartlett gets his way again. Must have photos.
They also threw up a teaser by giving out some of the 1st round games in 2013 and saying the rest of the draw is on it's way. So it keeps the fans' interest going up until draft time on 22/11. Then it the PSD and the Rookie Draft. The only time there seems to be a footy lull in Melbourne is the week of the Australian Tennis Open.Comment

I think it's just Sheeds looking for some press, but also I wouldn't be surprised if there's some kind of three-way trade in the works. Thinking TDL/Everitt. Tippett wants to win a premiership, so is hardly going to think GWS is offering him that.
I liked the comment that the paperwork's all ready to go, and that would be Swans style to have it all done and dusted and let the media chat amongst themselves for another week or so.
A big call by GWS if they want to take a belligerent approach to their trade dealings with the Swans at this early stage or work together somewhat. The Crows would probably take pick 12/13 for Tippet. We could probably trade pick 23 plus TDL and Everitt to GWS for pick 12/13. Both those players would add depth to their squad, they keep number 1 pick and can still trade three first round draft oicks for topliners plus 23.
Win-Win?
My call is that the Giants need to be very very careful antagonising the Swans. Perhaps this is how is may happen as it looks like GWS are the only team in need of what we can offer (i.e. good experience at a fair price that still allows them to build a quality squad).
It's a big test for the maturity of GWS how they approach this.Comment

If the Crows want one of our premiership players then give them one - A choice of Hall, Williams, Bevan, or any of our 2005 team excluding Goodes, O'Keefe, J Bolton or LRT.Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Apparently Tippett refusing to even talk to GWS. So a trade won't be done there. They'd have to take him in the PSD if all fell thru. Only time I can think of a club being usurped in the PSD for a player who wants to go to that club is John MrCarthy to Port, and Carlton cutting Collingwood's lunch with Stevens from Port. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

I can't see why GWS would want Tippett. They already have 2 awesome young Key forwards. With 5 of the top 13 draft picks they will certainly pick up ruckman Brody Grundy as well as another top KPF and KPD. If Giles and Grundy both play, rotating between the ruck and KF, there is just no room for everyone. Their whole strategy to this point has been to bring a whole team of young players together so they can make a serious run in a few years time. I personally think they have done a brilliant job.
As much as I think Tippett will help our side, I don't think we should be willing to give too much to get him. If he falls through to the PSD, maybe we get him for nothing, maybe not. I feel even with pick 23 we can land a reasonably good KPF in the draft and may even be able to trade up and give ourselves a better shot in this regard. There's still plenty of improvement possible in our forward line with what is already on our list. We are not desperate.
I also cannot believe the level of scrutiny we have come under just because we could make a play for Tippett. Any other team can win the cup and everyone applauds. If the Swans win, something is wrong and we are rorting the system. It's just sickening. I would love to show them we can win the big one again, even without Tippett, for surely if we win and Tippett does become a Swan, there will be no end to the amount of acrimony directed toward us.Comment

The collective noun for a group of crows is a "murder" . . . . and no I don't think it's got anything to do with South Austalia's penchant for shallow bush graves.Comment
