There are very few players that are worth a pick 2,3, 4 or even 12. Tell you what though if GWS do steal him from under our noses, will mean the gloves are off with our cross town cousins and I would be doing my darndest to steal a couple of their kids in a year or two when they come out of contract.

The question I keep asking myself though is Tippett really that good a player ? I mean hes obviously big , reasonably talented and the right age to draft but I keep seeing articles speak of him as a ruckmen/ forward. While the ability to ruck and play forward are both handy attributes, I would only be "die in a ditch type" interested if he is really a true full forward/chf who can occasioanlly ruck if needed (like Hally did for us) and not an athletic big man who really isnt a true forward.

I would be really surprised if GWS could be 'priced out' of the market - especially as they are looking to get more experienced players at the moment.

He's gawn as far as we're concerned now, unless we trade a decent player which I don't favour. With GWS into the fray it takes out the "Swans or get nothing for him" argument. The argument that he doesn't want to go to GWS doesn't wash as if he goes into the PSD then he has to go where he's drafted if the money's right. And GWS can easily fit him into their cap.

I think the biggest thing for other clubs with the PSD is that Tippett clearly wants to play for the Swans. Unless they've spoken to him since, it would be a pretty big call to pick up a player who you know clearly wants to be elsewhere.

It's a brave club that drafts a player who expressly says he does not want to go there. This is media fluff nothing more

Unless you're at the trade table or know someone involved, it's impossible to know how far the talks have advanced. I don't think you can believe everything reported in the media. Silvagni said GWS are interested but that doesn't mean Tippett is.

If he doesn't want to go to GWS - do you really think they would still take him and his big salary?

                Re: Tippett?

The whole draft system is one disgruntled player away from falling apart. Like in the NRL if a player takes the AFL to court then the draft will be gone.

Its been done though. We picked up Scotty something who expressly did not want to leave Melbourne area, and he turned himself into a complete tool for our bother. They stopped playing him due to "injuries". At the B&F that year they did the list of those leaving and everyone got a clap, but when his name came up there was close to dead silence from the playing and coaching staff.

Nic Davis was dissed by Collingwood when he wanted to come home to Sydney, felt he couldn't even go to their B&F and the vitriole from Mick Malthouse was embarrassing. Spida couldn't get a release from Hawthorne either, they made it impossible for him to make the change he asked for until the following year, one year too late.

However years have gone by and maybe things have changed re physcology (sic). Or not. We are talking Sheedy, and I don't think he would give much of a tuppenny dump what Kirk Tippett wanted out of life, unless being with such young men has changed him. If all the coaching staff feels the same then that is where he will get picked up.

Not holding up great hope. Long shot at best he makes his way to the Swans.

Why would GWS trade all those high picks for him anyway, they already have two very good young forwards and as Sydney are the only team apparently interested in him, if our talks fail he walks straight to GWS anyway.
This piece stinks of a media/AFC beat up to me.

Spida was still under contract at Hawthorn whereas Tippett is not and whilst I don't remember Scotty Whoever, that is the very reason why you would think no other club would want to take him against his wishes.
Look at the Ball situation, plenty of clubs had the chance to grab him but they all used their common sense and let him go to where he wanted to be.
I still think Tippett will be wearing the red and white next year and we will be a mighty force with him in.

Scott Russell but things have changed significantly since then.

What the heck is a 'tuppenny dump'? If it is even half as bad as it sounds then Tippett is in trouble!

I must say that things are simply too conufusing from the outside. But I haven't changed my mind - I'd like to get Tippett but not at the price of a rohan, parker or any of the youngsters - i want to know that we will still be playing good finals brand footy in 2015-8 as the Giants and Gold Coast start to really dominate. I dont want to be the side that gave up its youth for a final crack at the flag in 2013....and then disappeared for a number of years.
