    Taking a different tack.

Terry Wallace raised the question on regional radio tonight as to whether Tippett will demand a four year, bells and whistles deal going into the draft to discourage GWS or whether he may have a bob each way and nominate a one year deal hoping to get to the Swans next year if he fails in the PSD.

Maybe the latter is the way to go. Leave yourself an out at the end of 2013 and at the same time make to it clear to GWS that you're not interested in staying there long term and maybe cause them to think it's not worth the trouble of drafting him. This would especially be the case if he has to miss a big chunk of the season.

What's all the fuss about? If Judd can take all that dirty cardboard cash, how can the AFL say one thing about this? Can't wait to see him in red and white.

Your comment was sent straight through to AFL Headquarter and they took immediate action. Good Work.

I believe that if you nominate for the draft and choose to stipulate your contracts terms, it must be for a minimum of two years.

Like Matimbo said, ignorance is not a defense, ever really.

Imagine getting pulled up by a police officer - "sorry officer, I had no idea that you can't overtake in the left lane - I'm only 22"
              Yep, that would work.
Good argument except that if the lane is defined by lane markings it is legal to pass on the left side.....

That's my understanding, too, and I believe it was put in place for exactly the sort of scenario proposed by Mr Wallace.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

This is actually the point....3rd party deals are not supposed to have ANYTHING to do with the club....they are not supposed to involve club sponsors....if they do they fall under the Salary cap. As I understand it this is why no more VISY deals are allowed as obviously should have been considered part of Carlton's salary cap. There is a component of club sanctioned marketing but this is limited and lodged with the afl. Clubs are EXPLICTLY told not to divert marketing money to particular players without informing the AFL.

A player is allowed to do a sponsorship deal with Glenelg office supplies if he wants....but not if Glenelg office supplies has any ties to the club or the afl.

Two things.....Carlton TOLD the AFL and since then the rules have been changed 'cos everyone recognised it was bollocks and a clear cheating of the salary cap.

BTW the VISY deal has canned as of now....in the papers today.

Depends on the speed limit though, so not always legal in those circumstances.

I actually got booked for not keeping left unless overtaking maybe 20 years ago.
I was on the Princess Freeway looking for the Werribee turnoff which as on the RHS of the road.
Wasn't wxactly sure where it was (this was when we used Melway to get around) so I sat in teh right lane.
Turns out I was 2km away when the police came up behind me, and 1km away when they pulled me over.
I was traveling at 110 km/h - around 30 seconds away from the turnoff
TOG's pulled me up, so there was no option for them to hear my reasons.
                        Was thrown out of court.

Normally if I get booked for overtaking on the left I blame Kurt Tippetts manager.

70% of the time it works EVERY time.

Pretty emphatic response form van Berlo's manager.

I've heard of getting thrown out of a pub but a court house?? I'm behaving myself next time I'm driving in Victoria. Very mean law enforcement.
