Blucher: Kurt, got a 3rd party deal sorted for you, a couple of ads on TV for Balfours Pies worth about 30K.

Tippett: Sweet, TV ads, hope the make-up girl is cute....

Do you seriously think he is going to question his manager whether the papers will be lodged correctly or if the deal is all above board or if the money is coming from the Pie Factory or AFC or whatever?? He just knows he has to turn up to a studio and shoot a commercial, probably have a lot of fun and is getting paid for it. Happy days indeed...

Hmmmm. I have thought of doing that. In a way like..."Is it legal for you to be paying me so little"

I agree it could've happened just as you say, but he is still responsible for what he is signing & will have to answer for that. Just the same as the tax agent did my tax & siad I could claim it, the ATO still fine you as you signed it as being correct.

This is a pretty good indication of the argument he will make.
Like Matimbo said, ignorance is not a defense, ever really.

Imagine getting pulled up by a police officer - "sorry officer, I had no idea that you can't overtake in the left lane - I'm only 22"
              Yep, that would work.

MAYBE he really had no idea.
I find it hard to believe that someone wouldn't know all about the deal they are on and how it came about?
KT's manager would have said "here's the deal I've got you" at the very least.

will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Based on what we all know transpired, I think he will be lucky to escape without penalty, and I doubt that penalty will be challenged or compensation sought.

                  Tippett?

There is just so much speculation, hearsay and so on that it's hard to say if the truth is ever going to come out. It's great having something to talk about again, but everyone is having to guess what has been going on behind closed doors, through processes that hardly any of us know about and deals that none of us were present at. Yes, it's fun to speculate but now people are attacking each other about situations that may or may not nor may ever come to pass and is verging on ridiculousness!

Yes, fair enough, but how easy is it to recognise that your deal is illegal? I'm not being facetious, but seriously asking. Would it be that obvious to one player? Would they know the total allocation of the TPP? I'm not so sure. Looking at the reported deal Tippett has with Sydney, you could say his current deal could look pretty similar. They're both a lot of money. We have the benefit of Andrew Ireland saying that they have a lot of room in the salary cap. And I'm guessing most players probably don't want everyone knowing how much they earn, either.

It's just too difficult to say what's really happened!!

"Sorry coach, but I'll have to miss training the next 2 weeks. I've been tipped off that my last salary cheque may have been sourced from laundered drug money. I'm on a plane tomorrow to Abu Dhabi following up on a hot lead. I'll keep you and the AFL posted in accordance with my contract. My father, my manager and my lawyer say it's not necessary, but you can't be too careful these days. One slip up and you could get de-registered for a year. Can't take the risk. I'm over 18 you know, and have to take responsibility for everything that goes on in my life. I wish we lived in a world where you could trust your employer and the people you hire to look after you, but things don't work that way. By the way coach, can I get you something in the duty free shop on my way back?"

And the latest breaking news is Adelaide also being investigated for a third party deal with van Berlo, and so it continues.Wonder how
many other clubs are shaking in their boots?

Adelaide will have to lodge 3 player lists this year: A senior list, a rookie list and a deregistered list.

Wouldn't the analogy be that you sign the tax form then your accountant files a different electronic version and doesn't necessarily tell you?

                                Taking a different tack.

Terry Wallace raised the question on regional radio tonight as to whether Tippett will demand a four year, bells and whistles deal going into the draft to discourage GWS or whether he may have a bob each way and nominate a one year deal hoping to get to the Swans next year if he fails in the PSD.

Maybe the latter is the way to go. Leave yourself an out at the end of 2013 and at the same time make to it clear to GWS that you're not interested in staying there long term and maybe cause them to think it's not worth the trouble of drafting him. This would especially be the case if he has to miss a big chunk of the season.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.
