Wallace really is a knob. I've never found anything he says to be insightful in any way, just a waste of airtime. How lucky were we he didn't become our coach in 2003, phew! He did a god job of prolonging Wretchmonds stay in the wilderness.

Natural justice says Tippett should come to us since AFC had agreed to a pick 23 & White trade but the AFL stopped it. Tippett still hasn't been found guilty of anything.

I wonder if GWS are fair dinkum about Tippett or if it's just publicity seeking by Sheedy. They did draft more talls so not sure where they are all going to fit in their 22.

As it stands now, I guess it's because he is probably the best available player in the PSD and they have the top pick in it, he fits a need for them and they can afford the salary.

If Kurt ends up at a new club through the draft the whole point of the order it is to make weaker clubs stronger, if he goes to the reigning wooden spooners I'm not going to be overly outraged I must admit.

...and in an article in this morning's melb age some journalist mentioned that the general feeling of club officials at the afl draft is that Tippett will end up at the Swans thru the pre-season draft. They believe that GWS wont pick him up.

I don't see how a good player going to the Giants against his will is natural justice, particularly given the extent the rules have been bent to pump the Giants up. The Swans have built success on developing players and ensuring the want to stay. The model should be lauded, not cut down.

It is natural justice because it would serve as part of Tippett's punishment, go to the crappiest team going around.

I still think we'll get him in the PSD if it goes that far, but surely Tippett has a reasonable legal case to challenge what has happened.

Without having his case heard, let alone be found guilty, he has incurred the following restrictions/penalties outside of the standard rules that all other AFL players are subject to:

1 - denied the ability to be traded
2 - denied the ability to be delisted prior to the National Draft
3 - denied the ability to be delisted immediately after the National Draft (for the second free agency window)
4 - denied the ability to have his case heard by the AFL Grievance Board (so far - they have received his request with no resolution as yet)

And all that in the context of:

i) Tippett being fully prepared to participate in defending the charges laid against him
ii) a transfer to another club being inevitable (Adelaide have emphatically confirmed they don't wish to now retain him)
iii) any punishment he incurs (should in fact he be found guilty) would have exactly the same impact whether those 4 restrictions above were in place or not (ie. the punishments are financial sanctions, suspension and/or deregistration - all of which are unaffected by which club he is employed by)
iv) the AFL planning to allow Adelaide to participate in the draft because their case hadn't yet been heard

It's probably 'not a good look' for a player to switch clubs with the charges like this hanging over their head, but at the end of the day people have rights and the AFL can't just bypass those at their discretion.

I hadn't thought of this aspect - true if he is found guilty!

My thinking was more in tune with O'Reilly in that GWS is going to end up with something like 25 first round draft picks and the suggestion is that they should get KT too? Meanwhile the Swans as always have to make the best of their mostly 2nd, 3rd & 4th round picks. I concede that the Swans are the 2012 Premiers and GWS are on the bottom but the Swans didn't actually finish at the top of the ladder and it is only a matter of time before GWS together with GCS take over the world!

I think Steve is correct in his analysis. It is just not right that the AFL toys with a player's career before he has been even been heard out. I think he deserves a presumption of innocence and allowed to go as any other player would. If they choose to sanction him afterwards, so be it.

As for GWS, they took 4 top notch KPPs and elevated Sam Frost from the rookie list. If they took Tippett in the PSD, it would only be because they could get a tradable commodity for free (in the sense of draft picks), which would allow them to get compensation for at next year's draft. But they already have a very impressive young list of KPPs and Tippett really doesn't fit in that well IMO. I also heard on radio (but cannot source as it was just hearsay and only heard it once), that GWS really don't have any room in their salary cap for Tippett and are just stirring up trouble.

What price to deliver the current Swans playing group maximum support and ultimate success? It is a simple equation: when you want an employee bad enough you will pay almost anything to get him. Why pay less and get someone less?

Premiership players will go one way or another regardless of getting Tippett or not, just think how many 2005 premiership players were gone for various reasons by the end of season 2010.
As has been said a thousand times in this thread already, the team has to keep improving to keep being successful and getting the best available power forward into the club is the way to improve it.

Even if he is found guilty, 'go play for the crappiest team against your will' is a pretty awful punishment. Not that the AFL is beyond engineering that kind of scenario; it has demonstrated a willingness to make the rules up as it goes to suit its corporate agenda.

I reckon Wallace's statement was made in a quality equalisation context, in which case it is neither 'natural' nor 'justice'.
