Firstly, who died and made you king? I'll call them what I wish.
You need to get a life.
There's no rule that says I have to love every swan. I hated Big Blouse Barry.
I think storm in a tiffet-cup is a dickhead and we have a policy that deals with that.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I fail to see why a player shouldn't be trying to make as much money during their football career as possible. After all it is up to the clubs to make the decision whether he is worth what they are prepared to pay. He hasn't shot his mouth off about anything, he hasnt hit people, he has never said he hated adelaide or the club. He just didnt want to keep playing there and he wanted to maximise his earnings potential.
Do we criticise gerard healy for leaving the dees to play for us for $ ?Comment

I think there is every reason to feel a kind of contempt for a bloke who simply couldnt deal with the fact that whacking people or gouging people and then standing there with the arms outstretched saying "Who me ?" wasn't acceptable even in the 1970s. If you are going to whack someone at least have the courage to admit that you did it.

I still don't get how , on his career so far, he is worth $1m a season....IMO, not even close.
But I get the feeling...ie Him not talking to GWS, and the Swans silence....that there is every chance he'll end up a Swan.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Re: Tippett?
But the Swans want him Annie so they disagree with your assessment of Tippett. Also I fail to see what Tippett has done to be labelled a dickhead to be honest. His crime it seems is that he doesn't like Adelaide and wanted out at the first opportunity...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Everyone wants out of Adelaide... can you blame them?
I'm sorry, but he KNEW the dodgy deal was being made - and if he didn't, he's an bona-fide idiot.
I read that his QC will use arguments like "he was only 22 when he signed and he didn't know what he was signing ...". Yeah. Right.
As a rule, I generally trust the selectors; but my gut says no on this one.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Well, I'm a bit surprised, but it certainly seems right that if a player rejects a contract offer the team cannot delist him. Even his lawyer implied that he was going into the PSD. But this appears to be an anomaly in the system where the club gets bogged down with players on its list that are uncontracted but cannot be removed from the list. Why doesn't it state this in the AFL rules?
So if Tippett chooses not to register for any draft, and doesn't sign the Adelaide contract, how and when does he come off their list?
Related stories are saying that Adelaide will be forced to delist another player because of this situation. This is very odd. A player on a contract can be delisted, but an uncontracted player who has rejected a new contract cannot be delisted. Is there something illogical about this? What am I missing here?Comment

So if we do land Tippett, how much do we pay him? If our senior players did have an issue with his purported salary demands (which I'm not sure is true or not), and with a deregistration or some other penalty hovering, what's he now worth? I would generally think a player is in a better position if he has half a dozen clubs trying to woo him and outbid each other for him, however in this case he seems hell-bent on the Swans. Surely all this doesn't put him in a great bargaining position in terms of salary?
I'm very glad we don't have to give up a draft pick or anything, but with KT on board and a bunch of GF winning youngsters in the squad, surely our salary cap will feel the strain in the next year or two even with a few big retirements on the horizon?Comment

Agree with Benny that there is nothing to suggest that Tippett is a dickhead just because he has an agent negotiating the best deal he can get, just like any other player.
Let's review the situation in October 2009:
1. In his 2nd season, the 22 y.o. Tippett kicks 55 goals.
2. He has 1 year remaining on his contract.
3. The Gold Coast are coming into the league when his contract expires.
4. He is a near certainty to go to GC on an Ablett like huge contract.
5. He may even be able to go for nothing through the PSD, since he can reject any trade Adelaide come up with, then get picked by GC who have the first pick in the draft. Theoretically possible.
6. The AFC come up with a deal to extend his contract for another 2 years, thus getting him past the GC startup period. They offer him a big salary, plus other inducements, which are now the subject of investigation. The Tippett team may have suggested some of these inducements. They are just stating what it will take to get Tippett to stay another 2 years, not necessarily doing it outside the rules, although it would seem his manager should know what was within the rules or not.
7. KT's minders advise him to stick it out in Adelaide another couple of years and if you still want to leave they have guaranteed you easy passage to the club of your choice. They tell him it's a good career move and it sets his market value higher for future contracts.
8. Hard to say how enthusiastic Tippett is, but he accepts the deal and stays another 2 years beyond 2010. He showed every sign of being a committed footballer during the entire period with the club (acted professionally).
It is the club's responsibility to comply with salary cap regulations, not the player's. I don't see why Tippett would know exactly what details concerning the contract were reported by the AFC to the AFL. I imagine that Tippett's complicity in this will be judged on whether he knew or is responsible to know whether certain details of his agreement comply with AFL rules. Many of us on RWO are struggling with the interpretation of the rules even after reading them. In fact, some of the most knowledgeable posters on here were not sure why being offered easy passage at the end of one's contract constituted draft tampering. I think it is reasonable for an employee to assume that an employment contract entered into complies with the laws of the land and industry regulations. It would seem that Tippett's lawyer will make this case.
I don't see anything in this that says this guy is a dickhead.Comment
