I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time -
I still hope we get him and I think if we do our chances of back to back shoot up.
Yep, would be very interesting to see the reactions of a lot of the posters on here if we do get him and how he goes next year.Comment

Re: Tippett?
Tsk Tsk Annie... I thought even you would trust the club on this matter. The club that gave us 2 wonderful and exhilarating flags wants him so what more do you need...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

I also wonder what impact sanctions/bans etc would have on Tippett's contract - surely he now can't ask for the $800k to $1M pa range?Comment

It will be interesting to see what penalty next week's AFL Commission hearing gives both The Crows and Tippett. Currently, Tippett remains a listed Adelaide Crows player (uncontracted) as the AFL wouldn't approve either a trade or delisting until an investigation had concluded. This is expected to come to a head next week prior to the National Draft. There are still various scenarios that could play out:
The AFL either/both de-registers or suspends Tippett for a number of games (including imposing a fine).
Depending on the AFL's directive to Adelaide, Adelaide may choose to keep Tippett on their list and trade him in 2013. This is assuming that the derigistration and/or suspension of Tippett is lengthy until late 2013. At least Adelaide could get something for him in 2013.
The AFL could instruct Adelaide to delist Tippett to allow him to continue his career through normal AFL channels. The most likely avenues for Tippett are either through the second free agency period (for non-contacted and delisted players) which commences 23rd Nov (day after National Draft) and ends 28th Nov.....or in the Pre-Season Draft. Tippett would need to state his contract terms and any interested club would need to weigh up the financial/football feasibility of recruiting him given his likely lengthy time out of the game. The free agency period would be Sydney's best chance of getting him assuming he is delisted prior to Nov 23rd.
Then there is the possibility of Tippett taking it through legal channels if he believes he has been harshly treated. This becomes a distinct possibility if the deregistration/suspension is a very lengthy one and/or he feels he's being pushed to represent a club against his wishes. Yes, I know that happens regularly in draft circles but this case is exceptional and it wouldn't be the first time an exceptional case has led to a challenging of the rules (ie restraint of trade).
My gut feeling is that the AFL would like to see Tippett head to GWS. It wouldnt surprise me if they declare him available for the Pre-season draft (needs to be delisted by the Crows) to show impartiality (I use that word loosely) towards his destination. ...but do they tell him he's unavailable to be selected in the second free agency period. This could be playing legal fire with the AFL rules and also open themselves up to a legal challenge.
An interesting week will be next week!Comment

Interesting Question: Tippett can't go in a draft if he is still on a list at AFC. If they delist him after the ND then he becomes a free agent and can go to the Swans. If the next Free agency period expires and he is still on AFC's list, can he then be delisted given that his rights as a delisted player have also expired? If AFC can't delist him after the 28th of NOV then he can't enter the PSD. A lot depends on the AFL and how it twists and bends the rules to allow a player his rights but at the same time not allowing him his rights! The AFL is obviously trying to punish the player for draft tampering but is walking a tightrope in terms of tampering with the draft themselves! Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Don't think KT can walk to us if de-listed as he was offered a contract with his current club, which would rule that option out. Having said that, the AFL are good at changing rules on the run
I think the only way he can get to us is in the PSD & pricing GWS out. He doesn't talk to them & his manager keeps saying NOT INTERESTED whe contacted by GWS.RED & WHITE - IT'S IN THE BLOODComment

If delisted prior to the second free agency period he can go to the Swans as a free agent. Sydney have already offered Tippet in excess of Adelaide's contract offer and Adelaide have already said that they cannot/wont match it.Comment

I would think that Adelaide would be more than happy to get him off their list before the ND if the AFL permit them to. How much the AFL wants to manipulate the normal process of the draft is hard to say. I suppose we will find out soon enough. The AFC have to cop whatever they are given, but Tippett has options. The question has always been how hard the AFL are willing to play this game. Can they find the right balance between enforcing compliance with their rules while not inviting a potentially damaging legal challenge.Comment
