Andy Maher reporting on SEN that a deal to send Tippett to a Melbourne club is someway down the track. However not sure of his accuracy when he says KT contracted until the end of 2018.
My understanding is that it was extended to 2020Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

"Someway down the track"; as in there is a deal being worked out or that the 2 parties are a long way off agreeing to a deal?Comment

Many Melbourne journos, stuck in the Victorian bubble, are pretty clueless about what goes on at the Swans. That includes Maher. Having said that, I won't lose any sleep if Tippett doesn't play seniors again this year. Buddy, Reid and Rohan give us more flexibility up forward. Naismith is our best ruckman and if need be, Sinclair gives 100 per cent as back up and, unlike Kurt, is mostly fit and healthy. Tippy is a very good player when right but has too much 'form' when it comes to his body holding up.Comment

Interesting as when I heard that his contract had been extended until 2020 but at a reduced rate it was the first thing I thought of...easier to trade with a contract in place at a reasonable figure and not an exorbitant figure for 2018. I would think for $600,000 pa for 3 years he might be very appealing to a club looking for an experienced ruck/forward. If it helps us keep Reid then I'm all for it.Comment

So they aren't as clueless as you assume. They tend to have good networks within clubs and ultimately know more than you than you think.
These sources inside clubs that are prepared to talk about deals, which where most of the news come from.
I am getting fed up with Victorian / Melbourne bashing.spriteComment

If you go back to page 1 post 1 - it was a Victorian journo who started the news that created this thread.

I was listening to SEN in the background when he made this comment. Someone made a comment that Richmond could be a suitor to help take some pressure off Reiwoldt. I personally think that any club taking him as a forward would be crazy. He's too slow to be a forward these days but is a great Ruckman. He'd be great for a club looking for ruckman for 2-4 years.Comment

Melbourne footy journos deserve all the bashing they get. They mostly get by on rehashing media releases, recycling stale rumours and spouting second-hand opinions.
They do have my sympathy however, because they are driven relentlessly by their bosses to come up with "news" everyday, when there clearly is nothing new to report. It's no wonder they are tempted to "manufacture" something, anything, to keep the wolf at bay.
It was Craig Hutchison who first broke the Tippett/Swans story. It goes without saying that he is not a Melbourne journo. He's a Gippy boy; born and bred in Warragul with footy in his blood.Comment

Want a chuckle, read the first few pages of this thread, all seems a long time ago now with the other players being mentioned.
Who ever said Melbourne journos are under pressure to come up with new news every day is correct. That's why we see a constant stream of stories about who is going where in trade period, many of the stories supposedly come from "club sources" so are given real weight. Then sometimes, even within the very next news cycle, the player supposedly going to X club re-signs!
I reckon some of the stories written could have been taken straight from the Trade Hypotheticals thread of certain footy chat sites!
It's what makes the Buddy heist so stunning, that no one knew until it was announced he'd signed with us, brilliant and hugely satisfying blindsiding.Comment
