With respect wardy it is not who we are going to target but who the club is prepared to trade to get someone they have courted since August and met with to finalise two days after the grand final.

I don't know the answer but if its not grundy it becomes more likely to be one of our highly liked younger players.

Fwiw I didn't target him but thought he may have been the obvious person.

Mitchell is just about our most highly regarded young player outside the 22, if you measure that by the effort we put in to get him and keep him away from the opposition.

They expect him to be a 200 excellent gamer..I think he's probably more worth more than Tippet potentially.

My main concern is the trouble he has staying on the park. If he goes, I'd say the swans have had that doubt medically reinforced.

Otherwise he is an absolute cert NOT to be traded out.

All the trade rumours seem to me to be coming out of the adelaide side. Of course they would ask for our best young potential midfielder. Of course they awould ask for Sam Reid and Heath Grundy.

This may be Adelaides starting point (which it has to be to save face with their members) , but from a negotiating point of view the Swans could stick pretty steadfast to say pick 22 and white and then Adelaide have to work out whether they are prepared to give this up for possibly nothing out of the PSD.

Our guys surely have the upper hand here and I would be playing it for all its worth.

I was completely and utterly anti the idea/rumour of Grundy leaving, but the idea of letting go of Mitchell is even more preposterous. The kid is very very likely to be an ultra-high quality AFL player for a number of years. He would have been a very high draft pick last year if we weren't lucky enough to get his as F/S. He has shown his absolute quality in the NEAFL and will not stay there very long in 2013 if at all, all going well. Yes he's had a few injury concerns in the last couple of years but I wouldn't be overly worried about that as yet. He stays.

I guess no one knows what is going on behind the scenes and we won't no until this whole painful thing just hurries up and happens. I don't think anyone had Reg's 'bags packed' or anything so I don't feel that anyone needs to say they were wrong or right or whatever.

The rumours will keep coming that's for sure. Just yesterday my cousin's hairdresser's next door neighbour's girlfriend saw Cyggy on his scooter heading in the general direction of Adelaide.....

              Like any bargaining.
The seller will start high, and the buyer low.
Eventually they will meet a medium agreement. Not always in the middle.
Unless the buyer is my wife. A few stunned sellers in China last year.

I'd expect if Mitchell is seriously on the table, it would only be if we have serious doubts about his body to stand up to the rigours of AFL footy. If his body is ok, there is no way I'd expect we would look to trade him - especially as there is both ROK and Bolton to replace over the next couple of years from the midfield group. We have one ready made replacement in Parker, and you'd expect the other would be Mitchell.

Adelaide were on the radio this morning saying that the club would be a better place without Tippett and wouldn't re-draft him if they didn't come to an agreement with Sydney.
Not sure that it was all sour grapes, part of it might be softening people up so that if they only get a pick for him, they realise its better than nothing.

i think it is wishful thinking in the public arena to say i wont comment if mitchell was offered up...considering he is highly regarded and we need some more yngr highly regarding midfielders with ELITE potential coming through

I think it's a bit unfair to basically say "NEENER NEENER NEEEENER! YOU WERE WRONG ABOUT GRUNDY", it was simply speculation. Posters weren't in the spirit of "Oh Grundy's useless, get him the hell out of here" it was generally respectful "Well if someone of quality *had* to go, we could most easy cover the absence of a key defender" (and then it obviously went around in circles about whether we have the depth there or whatever) but this isn't BigFooty, and there aren't really that many Grundy snipers on this board.

At the end of the day, no-one is really privy to the discussions or inner workings of the Club so 99% of anything augured here is speculation, and that isn't disrespectful. Speculation is going to continue on here, it's a hot topic and fair enough some people are becoming upset by it. And if it does that, maybe don't read this until the deal is finalised. There are going to be frustrating posts that we all disagree with, this is a democratic forum. But I guess like the forum rules state, as long as you're not putting down the poster, you can say what you want to say.

Yep, but we we're throwing ridiculous and far fetched senarios out there.

                        From the article link posted...

"Grundy, a 26-year-old premiership defender, was viewed as an ideal fit for the Crows, who are seeking to bolster their backline with experience."

"As Grundy was taken off the table...."

Please tell me, what do you speculate will get the trade done?

Im sure this has probably been discussed somewher in the 68 pages of this thread, but am I right in assuming that to get Tippet the Swans have two options:
                                - Do a deal with Adelaide; or
                                - Adelaide get nothing, Tippett goes into the draft, and we do a deal with GWS (GC?)
If so, it seems to me that the Swans a in a pretty strong negotiating position, and need not offer Adelaide much at all, as something (last round draft pick) is better than nothing.
