Tippett signed a contract last time that gave him an "out". Lions & Suns offered good money ($700 & $750k a season). Crows in fact offered more ($800). Tippett nominated Swans as his preference .. they have offered $4m over 4 years .. although this may be a back ended contract with the first year probably below $800k.

So if it goes to PSD Tippett will ask for $4m over 4 years (not just $1m a year). It appears no one else will match this and so he goes to the Swans.

So all this offering draft pick (23 now?) plus Jess White is a courtesy that you would expect from a good honorable Club.

It appears AFC trying to cover themselves by making Tippett and Swans bad guys. It is stand off with Tippett and Swans best to say nothing until deal done.
Fair summation. I am pretty sure that Colless said somewhere (referred to back somewhere in this thread) that the Tippett offer was $3.2m over four years (correct me if I am wrong). I thought the $1m a season referred to the back (or front) end of the contract?

This article mentions it (Sydney closes in on Tippett deal) but, as I said, I am sure it also came from Colless' mouth at some stage.

P.S. - I am tipping this thread for the RWO record (so thought I'd advance by 1).

        Tippett?

So if he goes into the draft and we no one can meet his salary demands does that mean we can use our last pick on him and still pick up a good young player at 23?

If he goes into the PSD we don't have to give up anything.
LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

What's happening to this thread? It seems to be losing momentum!

The whole thing has been about PR for the Crows - talking up other players to replace his role, not wanting him back, questioning our additional salary cap etc etc. They're more worried about their fans thinking their club has been bent over than actually just getting on with doing the deal.

No coincidence that just as the word started coming through that pick 23 + White was about to be done, then Graham Cornes and Terry Wallace call that deal a joke, that things stall again. You'd have to think they'll let it run late into next week - again just to give the perception that they've driven as hard a bargain as possible.

It sounds as though we've played games too though - we should have just offered our first pick from the beginning as the best we could do. Pick 23 isn't really a genuine first-rounder anyway.

We should be shopping Jesse around elsewhere - worst thing for him and us would be for the Crows to reneg at the last minute and he stays on our list for another year. I'd be setting Adelaide a deadline of Wednesday (and that's generous) - if they can't make up their mind by then, our offer is off the table and we'll trade White elsewhere (even if not for much in return). If they agree to take pick 23 (on its own) by Friday, then fine - otherwise we'll keep it and get Tippett in the PSD.

That wasn't Malthouse, that was Greg Swann, the club CEO. But I know it must have really stung anyway Stell.

It's time that the AFC powers that be pulled Their collective heads out of their arses and just do the deal. They are not winning accolades for their negotiating skills that's for sure.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I find this use of the press to create resentment towards Tippett fairly awful...what it has done is create resentment toward Jesse White as well. It will be hard for him if he does go to Adelaide FC as there will be a whole lot of baggage created by the handling off this trade. Grossly unfair on a good bloke.

Terry "The Wallet" Wallace; wasn't he the bloke whose 5 year plan at Richmond nearly took them to relegation. Of all people to talk about crap deals. I quite like his thoughts on the game but recruiting has never been one of his strong suits.

Yep - and he apparently is now a self appointed doyen of list management. Quite amusing. Well it is to me anyway.

He's still resentful that he missed out on the opportunity to get us the wooden spoon in 2005.

+ 1 sadly very true. All because of hopeless management.
Nothing like a good light bulb moment.

Absolutely, it would be dreadfull for him to waste a year as a list-clogger. Brisbane were chasing Dawes, perhaps they would consider a Qld returnee.

Partly due to the AFL's wonderful idea of having a 3 week trade period.....
