From a practical point of view, mostly just the timing nowadays. It used to be that a player coming out of contract couldn't nominate for the ND unless his current club delisted him in one of the early lodgement periods. But that changed a few years back.

The benefit of the ND is that things get sorted faster. If he doesn't get traded tomorrow, and someone else drafts him before we do, the Swans are probably going to want to do some restructuring of current contracts (if allowed) to bring some payments forward to use next year's salary cap more effectively. If they have to wait until after the PSD, that gives less time to do so, plus it leaves both the club and Tippett in limbo for longer.

It also comes down to whether any of the clubs who might think about picking him are willing to use a first round ND pick on him, instead of a youngster. PSD picks have less opportunity cost associated with them than ND picks.

Am i the only one that thinks that Sydney has been the club that has been most affected by this. If Sydney want to trade for him they should be allowed to, the punishments for this should all go to Adelaide and Kurt's management and it shouldn't affect the player or the trade if we are offering them a 1st rounder and another player doesn't that make the tampering obsolete.

          'Tamper' affair: Tippett trade scuppered

the afl have come and said they wont block a trade..and considering our offer is above what the deal is between KT and Craws...
i think a trade will take place with only possible fines and sanction put in place on KT, but the crows will cop a bit....

i have heard 3 player agents on radio programs today say they expect a deal to take place tomorrow....i think they are more in the loop than the media

Is it possible that this is all a storm in a tea cup and none of what has said to have happened has happened.

Adelaides chairman has come and said this.

"We have nothing to hide - and we have opened all the books to the AFL without condition," Chapman said.

"I can give a gold-plated commitment the AFL will find nothing."

If adelaide has done nothing wrong then isn't the whole story dead, it would be pretty embarrasing for Chapman if he said that and they did find breaches made from the dealings to Kurt Tippett from adelaide.

            Another quote from the article,

Trigg's decision to hand the document to the AFL on Friday appears to have been triggered, in part, by rivals Gold Coast Suns becoming aware of Tippett's letter of arrangement with the Crows and seeking AFL scrutiny of the 2009 document.

Ashley Browne from AFL.com.au says he thinks the trade will be done to the Swans tomorrow but Swans may have some misgivings about possible suspensions or de-registration.

Why do these journo's insist on the "glamour" shot for their article. As if it makes any difference.

I'd like to think the Swans are still interested, but given the pending investigation we would probably be sneaking in a few clauses in Tippett's contract ie. if de-registered or excluded for a certain period then the club wouldn't pass through the full amount of his contract worth next year ect.

We've come this far trying to get him and I tend to think if Adelaide accepts 23 + White then the deal will pass through.

If the Suns are the whistle-blowers it make sense because if this trade deal gets destabilised they are in prime position to get Kurt for free.

If we are still offering pick 23 + White you'd have to think it would go through. Adelaide would be crazy to reject it - they'll probably lose the pick anyway, but it eliminates any risk of legal action from Tippett.

The AFL should want Tippett's future resolved and not left up in the air for another month or two, with the accompanying negative publicity (and potential legal claims).

The obvious concern for us is the potential for sanctions against Tippett which would impact his availability to play. With the risk involved, it would actually be reasonable to argue that the 'commercial value' of Tippett has reduced to the point that our offer is very decent.

Crows, Tippett caught in $200,000 rort

ADELAIDE is believed to have guaranteed Kurt Tippett $200,000 outside of his contract and suggested the arrangement be kept secret from the league.

Also relevant to us from Caro:

Irony and disaster in Tippett affair

"Incredibly, it was the unfortunate Swan, Jesse White, who seems to have provoked the final stalemate between the Crows and Sydney. Adelaide did not want White but Sydney seemed determined to offload him.

What is known is that the Crows would have been happy with pick 23 and had the trade taken place on that basis no one would have been any the wiser. Whatever the other legal ramifications, Tippett faces possible deregistration.

The Sydney board met early yesterday and is understood to be satisfied that no one at the Swans was aware of the deal, although the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast certainly were more than aware of its existence, or at least the draft tampering part."

At least she isn't slagging off the Swans this time. I don't really understand why she thinks no trade would go through (unless no club wanted him due to a likelihood of his being de-registered), surely Adelaide still want some return for losing Tippett?

She attempted the "glamour" shot - FAIL !!!!!

The deal must go through otherwise, the Crows may get nothing only to be cleared in 3 weeks time.

I think this whole affair is now what you would call a cluster@@@@.

Adelaide are going to be in a world of hurt - I am not sure the AFL has any option but to throw the book at them (massive fine, plus stripped draft picks). Tippett's manager will also be de-registered for a lengthy time (I would assume). As much as I wish it wasn't the case I also think Tippett is going to be out of the game for a while.

The AFL need to come down hard on this - even if just for the sake of the perception surrounding the League's integrity.

It is strange because we seemed (as a club) almost assured of getting Tippett at the start of the trading period, and now it almost feels like we are being screwed - and yet have done nothing wrong. Perhaps it is for the best.
