Sounds like we're both arguing the same point?

Could tomorrow be the end of this thread? How far short of the World Record are we ?

Collingwood game. The loss of J Mac had an impact on the ability of the opposition to be mentally up.
Hawthorn game. Poor kicking, especially in the last when they could have got 4 goals up, would have made it very difficult to win. Game could have easily gone either way, and the winner would have been worthy.
But you have to balance all of that against the Swans fair share of bad breaks during the season ...

Injuries to Goodes, Mummy, and Parker at key times during the home and away. Had these bad breaks not happened we may well have finished higher on the ladder at the end of the home and away. Then we had the injuries to Jude and Benny right at the end of the season that weakened our squad during the finals. And finally, our best player - Goodes - injures his knee halfway thru the GF.

To re-state the quote ... "luck is where preparation meets opportunity". I firmly believe the Swans were mentally better prepared than any other team during the finals and thus we were able to take our opportunity where the others did not.

At the end of the home and away season we were not the best team in the comp. We were around 3rd best.
Things fell our way during the finals, such that we ended up premier. A great effort, and making the most of our opportunities.

But our assessment of the list at the end of the H&A season still stands: Not the best in the comp. Needs a gun forward.

Tippet is the answer to us having the best list in the comp and expecting a premiership, not hoping for one.

I don't agree with this and think we were the best team throughout the entire year. I say this beacause as far as I remember, we were the only team that was in the top 5 for the entire season. We only slipped to fifth for maybe one or two weeks. No other team can claim that.

I think you're making a good point here - and a good justification as to why KT is deemed to be so important to our continued improvement.

ps What also helped us was that we strung 3 outstanding matches together at the right end of the year.....

                    Stats.
Play the same team twice, once at each home ground.
Have no injured players on either team.

Then you get closer to being able to judge who was the best team in the H & A season.

                    Then finals are different.
Some teams are at an advantage, others are disadvantaged due to home grounds.
Passion and spirit play a part and these are traits that are part of all teams.
Luckily, right now, the Swans have excess of both
