Surely it is time to have a ruck bull(ock) pen, similar to pitchers in baseball.. Every single top line ruckman has not lasted the season. Max Gawn was last man standing, but he looks like he might be gawn too. The amount of km, the bash and crash, and their size means they are sure to break down. Have a stable of four, rotate them throughout the season, no matter what the form line is, and ramp up your best two come September; known as the Clark Keating impact (can't believe that Nankervis is taller than Clark).

At this stage, it seems Tippo and Naismith would be the top 2 rucks. With Naismith being primarily a ruckman we can hopefully ease Tippet back with his workloadComment

I agree. I think we have Naismith and Tippett for the next few years. Sinclair is on a 4 year contract, yet he's only going to play if we have an injury. Nankervis may well be a good ruckman one day, but we have more depth than needed. He's probably worth a second round pick to someone.

Yes, Tippett and Naismith are my picks too. Though I suspect that it would mean Tippett spending more time as forward target, than what he was doing earlier in the year. Then again, we haven't really seen what Naismith can do up forward, have we?Comment

I tend to agree that Nankervis may be surplus at the moment but looking at their ages, he may be worth keeping on. He is only 21. Tippo will be 30 next year, Sinclair 27 and Naismith 25. From the few games Toby has played I believe he is a footballer, not just someone who is tall. He positions well on the ground and isn't afraid to use his body and, given a couple of years and more experience, he could be a valuable back up to Naismith/Sinclair or maybe even be the second choice over Sinclair."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." I wouldn't get rid of any of them... especially the second hottest swan, Tommy.
I'd gently nurse Tipoff back into form, i.e. let him just stand in the goal square and run around the 50 for the last two rounds (assuming he's back in R22), then maybe rotate him in the ruck in the finals... see how the others are doing at the time.
I'm happy to keep going with Naismith and Nankervis. They've been a dead-set surprise package this year (as is Allir). Their work down low for how bloody tall they are is just extraordinary.

Is there a set time before a player can come back, i.e. 10 weeks, 12 weeks?

I guess there has to be some minimum, or anytime a player was injured for just a week or two, their club could play a rookie in their place. Which would essentially mean that rookies are available to be picked at any time, thus effectively eliminating the distinction. I suspect this will happen within the next couple of seasons anyway, in which case the purpose of the LTIL will also disappear.
A club doesn't have to elevate a rookie player immediately, and even when they do, that player doesn't have to be elevated for a minimum period of time. So the Swans could have not elevated anyone until last week, had they wanted to. Once the injured player returns to playing, that elevated rookie is demoted again (unless there is another LTIL spot available).Comment

Off the top of my head, so far this year we've upgraded Papley, Marsh and Foote.
Papley I believe is in place of AJ (originally he was replacement for Rohan, when Rohan came back into the side, he took AJ's spot), I don't recall who Marsh was upgraded for (Robinson? Talia?) and I think Foote came in for Tippett - meaning once Tippett returns, Foote will be relegated back to the rookie list.
Happy to be corrected on any of that...Comment
