The problem is return for investment especially when compared to Tom Mitchell. One is on 900k the other offered 380k, one contributes every week and the other gets injured 50% of the time. I wouldn't have a problem with Tipp if he was on 300k.
If I had to chose between the two, Tom wins every time.

Surely that 900K is BS ??
It was a trigger in his contract to get the extra year, what was the trigger ? Play some good footy when is doesn't matter ?
His best is good, but for that money you could get anyone in the comp and as of now I could easily think of 20 guys id have ahead of him

Well there was another team out on the field (and some umpires giving them a little helping hand) on Saturday, the six
"other forwards" don't have a complete say in what happens out there. I don't think I'm alone in thinking Tippo was in
almost All Australian form before he was injured mid season, and then he suffered the fractured jaw in the QF. I'm
kind of surprised people are so harsh on the bloke. It is not his fault he got injured. It's footy, it happens. I don't mind
the idea of Tippo as a stay at home full forward (with occasional ruck duties) if it means we can keep Sam & Toby.
Sure, he is slow (ever seen a fast 204cm player) but he can hold a mark, is a decent set shot, and can create carnage
in a marking pack, that maybe the likes of Papley, Heeney etc can capitalise on.
What he gets paid is beside the point I think. We agreed to pay him whatever he is on, and he agreed to play his best,
and I think he does that.

The thing is we don't know what Tippett is on. Some are throwing $900k around, others say if was an $800k front ended contract (to out price other potential suitors) which trails off at the back end. Without full contract disclosure, it's open to potentially (perhaps likely) inaccurate speculation (and unfair expectations). But there's no denying his injuries (and equally the suggestion that he might be injury prone) which impair otherwise good form.

I admit Tipp in form probably does more around the ground than Sam BUT a ruckmans primary job is hitouts and as you can see from the season stats Tipp and Sam are almost level pegging. Neither of them are what you would call elite ruckmen. The difference between the two is about 600k.

His best is worth it, im not doubting that and he was on fire early in the year.
The point is the 6 other forwards has no say at all in what happened out there. Ill give the kids a leave pass but the Vets needed to be counted
Injuries aside if your out there your out there, Buddy had injections and 3 Bulldogs hanging off him and still busted a gut.
He didn't kick a bag or tear the game apart but no one can question his effort

Simple. Play him FF. Time we stopped relying on one key forward. He will probably stay on the park longer too.

From memory he was 4 yrs 3.2M, and that was front ended @ 1.2 for the first year meaning 650K for the last 3.

I can live with the 650K for his role in the side but next year is his 5th year which was brought about by a trigger in his initial 4yr contract.
Now some one tell me how his 5th year could get him 900K after being on overs for the first 4 yrs ?
By overs I mean for the amount of quality games played, not looking solely at his best, surely we are past having to stump up top dollar for him to play for us

Buddy is not a regular footballer, he is one of the greatest players to ever play the game. If you amputated one
of his legs he'd probably still try and chase an opposition player down. His effort and desire and talent are what
separates him from other players, including our other forwards. They aren't as good as him and never will
be. We can't have six Buddys in our forward line because the other five don't exist. And if they did the AFL
wouldn't allow us to have them. It's not like the other guys weren't trying, there is just another team on the field,
so not everything goes our way.

Tippett's original $3.5 million/4 year contract had an option to extend the contract for another 2 years if he met certain performance based benchmarks. Those 2 years is reported to be worth another $2 million dollars. Tippett exercised those option rights while he was performing well early on this year.

We can't afford to keep Buddy & Tippett and not lose future stars .... Mitchell looks like he's going to be the first casualty. I'd rather the Swans trade Tippett, gain a draft pick, get salary cap relief and spread the coin around to keep future stars like Mitchell, Heeney, Mills, Papley

strong rumours there was an altercation with Tippet and some players...and he is being heavily linked to Fremantle with freo paying 2/3's his salary..
however what player should we expect for him or pick or combo cant just give him away for free...
