Pretty much idle speculation but it grabbed my attention as I thought it would be a decent trade for both sides and the type of trade we might accept.

Agree with what an earlier poster said about loving our trading strategies. We rarely hold a departing player to ransom and rarely pay overs. All we ask for is fairness and it usually gets us a good deal

I love the way this club operates at trade time. Seem to always get players who leave to their club of choice without holding the other club at ransom.
Just look at essendon for the polar opposite.
I reckon this is ridiculous...the number 2 Tall KPP (McCarthy??) in this draft is expected to go at 13 or so. Collingwood would pick White before McCarthy (in fact any team in the top 8 window would if they were a KPP short) so this talk 3rd round draft picks is absolutely disgusting. We simply CANNOT do this!!! His real worth to Collingwood is far, far closer to their 10 and 11 picks than their pick 45!!!! Sheesh.

I acknowledge that keeping Pyke injury free is probably the most important thing next year, from an injury perspective. But I'd put Smith in my top 5 most important to stay fit and healthy. He's far from expendable in my eyes until we find someone else who can hold their own against the top quality small forwards. Freo, Geelong, Hawthorn and the Pies are just some of the teams who have some real quality small forwards.

And the real worth of Tippett to Sydney a year ago was far greater than pick 22 plus White (who had played hardly any senior footy for a year and a bit). Out of contract players are rarely traded for anything like their intrinsic value.

As well as getting Tippett even more cheaply than pick 22 and White in the end, we've also benefitted from trade bargains for the likes of JPK and Rhyce Shaw, because their clubs were willing to do the right thing by players who had - reasonably - requested a change of scenery.

I think pick 45 is about right in the current environment, especially considering we don't wish to keep him and he is out of contract. If there was a strong second party interested in him then perhaps a pick in the mid 30s could have been achieved.

If I read too much more about Smith leaving, I will spew up a perfectly good roast dinner. Could I ask that we talk about Dre instead? That way I will keep my dinner down.

Any thoughts on what Dre is worth? Would think a draft pick upgrade at best..

Actually think he would be a solid recruit for GWS and if they were to obtain another 3-4 like him they would well be on the way to being competitive. Assuming GWS want to be sure of getting pick one in the PSD, perhaps we could bundle Mummy and Dre for an upgrade from 31 to 19

That is a fine idea, MP. I assume they have got a few mid sized half forwards/backs that we would be interested in. Jarred McVeigh's statement about Mattner's importance to us would not be lost on our recruiting dept so another one of those would be on the shopping list.

O'Keefe has become too old to be traded to Carlton so there seems to be a need to replace him with another.

This trade period is way tooooooooooo long.

Heath Shaw wants to join Rhyce in Sydney - but across town. Our opening match in 2014 keeps getting more interesting:

Certainly is, it's bloody painful. Sooooooo much better when it only went for the week.

I'm okay with the length of the trade period, I think we just got used to the short 1 week turnaround and the media hasn't really adjusted so we're finding ourselves constantly desperate for news.

Magpies might seek to swap 3rd round picks with GWS in that deal and then ontrade that pick to us for White (mid 30s pick)

You should look at AFL operations as a career ugg.

That solution makes perfect sense to me....
