While I agree White , Lamb and Everitt would not be in our, injury free, best 22.
They are three excellent depth players, at the least, and like every club we will have injuries, which like this season puts these players in and around our best 22.
Added to that, all three possibly having their best footy ahead of them.
But the worst loss, IMO, is loosing Mummy... that's a big loss.....
Going into the season with only 1 genuine , AFL standard, ruckman on the list...All it takes is a training mishap (Pyke injured) and we'll struggle.
Players like Biggs, Membrey, Towers and Cunningham should get a few more opportunities now that 9 sernior players have exited the club. I think this is good for the long term future of the club.Comment

NO NO NO
We got perhaps the best player in the league plus picks 32 and 45 for our injury plagued second ruckman (who we were only willing to give two years to) and three fringe players all of whom are outside our best 22.
Big Big win when everyone was predicting we'd have to cut stars! Especially when we have upgradeable standard rookies coming out our ears.

Why are people so cut up with losing Dre and Lamb? Fringe players!
Be thankful everyone we didnt have to clear so many first 22 players for Lance. In fact what a win..we get to keep the core of our premiership side and just trim the excess fat!
Oh noes we lost Everitt!
And mummy tbh had a good first up season for us but ever since he has been battling form and injury. And he better not be bitching as he is a premiership player thanks to the swans.Comment

The swans website has already removed the trades. Interesting that Lamb and Armstrong are still there (still ours I guess?) More interesting is that Bigges, B. Jack and X. Richards have already been added to the "senior list" page as well as Rampe. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

We have to get our heads around the fact that players in their prime like White and Everitt don't want to be depth players. It's now or never for them. With the free agency atmosphere it has become easier to change clubs for opportunity and money. There are only so many places in the senior side and if you've too many good players, some that are being left our are going to leave. It's that simple.

That's great news re Biggs, BJ and X. How excited they (and certain brothers) must be.Comment

Maybe not the best but a pretty handy player and probably the biggest name in the game atm.
Spot on and this is what everyone needs to think about when talking trades.Comment

Once they get promoted during the year their profile goes on the senior list page. Has been there for a while.Comment

Lamb, White and Everitt may not be in the 22 (though I would pick Lamb before Cunningham and McGlynn) but they are in the best 28 though and that is the absolute minimum of good players you need to get through to the last day in September. So I think it is overly glib to say "Meh - depth player, so what?"
Also Lamb has not been delisted he has a contract offer. Conceivably we could still entice him to stay. As a required player he has to choose the draft to get to another club whereas a delisted player (like Armstrong will probably be) can just sign with whoever they want.
What interests me is whether GWS really wanted him (ESP at the price....$450k or so if reports that offer is 3X Swans) or whether they just decided to steal ANY player from Sydney that they could....just to be, um, not very nice.
On the other hand Lamb refused to sign early in the year so that would tend to indicate that he knew a big offer was in the pipeline.
Also clever (and a teensy bit nasty) to convince Swans to give up Mummy for pick 35 because GWS wanted to "Use PSD pick 1 on another established player." Of course, had we known their dastardly plans we would not have traded Mummy at all (well maybe for pick 9).

Essentially it is the ability to win 2 tricks when you have the Ace and Queen, even though your opponent has the King and the Jack....the key phrase to note in the explanation is that this is possible "should there be a favourable position of one or more of the cards in the hands of the opponents."
When you hold pick one in the PSD then that is the equivalent of your opponents cards being in very favourable position (for you).

I'm pretty certain Armstrong was contracted for 2014, has he been dumped unilaterally or is he off somewhere alse like Lamb?
FWIW
It makes me laugh to think back to when we recruited him from the crows. Many of the same RWOers that are lauding the swans efforts this trading season were praising Tony's abilities to the heavans!Comment

If you read my post carefully, it said he was perhaps the best player. I agree that Ablett is probably the best and is an absolute champion by any measure, but does he have the impact that Franklin has? If you look closely, Ablett nearly always handballs to a player and then get it back. Often you need to divide his possessions by half to look at his true impact. (As opposed to McVeigh who invariably gets the ball and hits a target immediately with a kick)Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Then again that will see players like swan and ablett possies go right down and well then who will they declare as best evers, casue you know to the melbourne media possies are the be all and end all to gauge how good a player is.Comment
