Soooo, how is Crameri worth pick 26 (and Essendrugs were unhappy with that) and White worth pick 44 - regardless of contract status?
Give me a break. Maybe we can go all out next year and shoot for picks 94, 131, 459 and 766. Are there any primary schoolers we can draft?
Crameri has played a lot more good football in his career than White has. Crameri is probably realistically worth a Pick In the high teens and Jesse a pick in the low 30's ( based on what he has produced thus far, not his potential )
Nah, we're all nuts that's all. And got computers. Pity the times when we didn't! Could you imagine standing for a whole game, packed like sardines? We wouldn't have known how to bitch and moan, demanded action, insisted on seating etc, no computers...that's all I'm saying. And we are nuts.
Yes I remember those days. My memories are vivid of standing in the outer at South, on the wing just the stand side of the scoreboard. A whole host of the same people stood in the same place at home games. There were people of all backgrounds from the folk from the outer south eastern suburbs that was South's zone to the tough nuts from Port Melbourne. All joining in the fun and banter of a days play. The odd scuffle occured with opposing supporters, usually the bloody Carlton mob who were so far up themselves. Memories are of Skilton, Bedford, Teaser, Bricey, the Goss clan, John Sudholtz, Jeff Bray, Elkin Reilly and the list goes on. I don't recall us ever having a problem with Collingwood supporters. The toothless tattoed gang were always fun to stand with. Mind you the Windy Hill bunch were genuinely scary.
Yes those were the days, far removed from the sterile stand sitting and hand clapping culture created by ground rationalisation and the AFL penchant for everyone having a comfortable seat (oxymoron). The AFL said the public demanded comfort. Bollocks, the majority stood for a few hours and loved it. No chance today that you could buy a box of beer, just before 3 quarter time before the bar closed, for the boys to knock over in a tight or not so tight last quarter. Raise your glasses you old diehards, and cheers to the good old days.
Primmy, you reckon you bitch and moan now. It hasn't got anything on those days.
News just in is that Buddy will be the only swans player in 2014. All other players have been traded in a package deal to GWS for pick 79. Both sides have reported the deal as "a big win".
excellent idea if we could pull it off. I said in an earlier thread that JL. AE and pick 39 or 44 for 22. To get 22 would be great and conclude a successful trading period. You could also throw in TA.

Sam Mitchell didn't even go at 766. "The Wallett" said he was too slow. Had to wait for Hawthorn to pick him up after he showed his wares at Box Hill, Played junior footy against my son for years when I ran the boundary. Everyone in the Eastern Ranges region were stunned when he wasn't drafted. He and Damian Cupido were head and shoulders above the rest of the Eastern Football Juniors at their age level, right through from Under 12's. So lets not play down the gems that are there at high picks.

I'd say we can logically assume two things. 1. Draft assessments get way more hardcore, detailed and scienfific with each passing year, so 10 years ago isn't really relevant to today. 2. The higher the draft pick, the higher the probability that that player will be a better performer than a lower draft pick.
We have been pretty good as discovering late pick gems, but I am astounded that this seems to equate to being A-OK with not having decent picks at all.
"Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Swans win pretty."
The Giants have been involved in the Polec deal and have traded picks 21 and 22 for picks 14 and 29.
Now I wonder if Jed Lamb could go along with picks 15 and 35 for picks 14 and 29.
Another more likely possibility is that GSW send Josh Bruce for the Saints offer of pick 41 and send that pick and 48 for Lamb.
We can give picks 44, 48 and Everitt (and even throw in Tony A) for Carlton pick 32

The Giants should send Bruce to StK for pick 41, the give us picks 29, 41 and 48 for Lamb and Everitt.
Those 3rd round picks could be useful for drafting defenders and ruckmen, who tend to be overlooked in the earlier rounds.
It may also be worth a shot at taking Dayle Garlett with one of the 3rd round picks that come before Adelaide's. I don't think he'll go in the first 2 rounds. I'd take a chance on Garlett and make fellow West Australian Buddy Franklin his mentor. Buddy and Jacinta can adopt him. What a cute little family they'll make.
I also wonder if Armstrong would be willing to go to Brisbane. They could use a player like him after losing Yeo and Polec. They now have picks 33 and 34. Why not send Armstrong and pick 39 to Brissy for one of those picks. Otherwise, looks as though he will be delisted and taken by Collingwood for nothing.

Well, Dre is attracting attention from several other clubs so they will need to trade if they want both players. I would accept that trade. 29 should get us the ruckman we need and we get three decent draft picks. Reckon GWS will trade 14 for another experienced player which gives them Mummy, Shaw, Hunt, Dre, Jed, AN Other (for 14) plus pick 1 in PSD. The 7 experienced AFL players that squad needs plus Pick 1 and 2. Have to say that would be a good trade period for them and it gives them a real shot at climbing the ladder, a really good shot actually.
Brisbane have got to be odds on for the Spoon next year...
Dre could look not nearly as a good in an inferior team
so to Lambie
Hunt is solid but end of his career
Shaw and Mummy strong acquisitions
overall a solid trade week for GWS though - i agree
Agreed but they will give them the depth and experienced they need. Once those three big boys start firing up front with some backup around the park then lookout I am afraid.....

I wonder how many draft picks GSW plan to use. With the swap they made. With Mummy and Giles already on board and a couple of ruckmen in their development ranks, I wonder if they will bother with drafting another ruckman. In any case, they could probably get one with a late pick or in the rookie draft.
I thought they swapped picks because they intended to use pick 14 in the draft. It's late in the trade period, so if pick 14 is going to get another big name player, there must have been some behind the scenes talk that hasn't leaked out yet.
If they get both Lamb and Everitt and lose Bruce, I figure they are up net down 6 players overall, so perhaps just using their 3 1st round picks is enough. There is still the possibility of additional players in the PSD. So perhaps pick 29 is possible in a trade for both Everitt and Lamb. I would be okay if we got pick 29 and either 41 or 48.

I think the greatest ever low draft pick was Alister Lynch in the early 100s one year. Those players are out there and we have found a lot of great talent past 44 such as Alex Johnson, ROK, Jesse White and Nick Malceski.
By the end of tomorrow we may have had Lamb, Everite, and Armstrong leave the club, giving our senior list a turnover of 9 players, with only Franklin coming in.
We may have to use rookie upgrades and the draft to fill 8 unfilled positions on our senior list. I don't know how much cap we have to trade for a player or to get a player in the Pre season draft!
Apparently Malthouse has met with Everitt, in another article blaming every out on 'salary cap problems induced by the Franklin deal'. They just don't give up. As I've said before I am no fan of the one ruckman approach and early on White was played out of position, but if any of these journos had read this board a few months ago, before Lance the Swan had been invented, there would be no big deal about this at all! Lord, if we play our first game next year with all of our recent 'outs' back 'in' and all of the new bloods that have been blooded back in the twos...
