From the position we are in, 2-3 would be an ok result. But from the draw we've had, in my opinion its far from a pass mark. Despite our ongoing crappy injury story, I'd say 95% of people on here would of expected us to be at worst 3-2 after 5 rounds, probably 4-1 would represent a pass mark for most before the season started. Hawthorn are missing plenty of troops, including a large part of their defence, but they are still at 2-0 and looking reasonable.

1999. Eventually played finals. At Round 5 was 1-4 with a percentage of 66, and coming 3rd last on the ladder.
2003. Eventually Preliminary Finalists. At Round 4 was 1-3, and in the bottom 5. For the Round 5 game against Melbourne they were 20 points behind at three quarter time.
2005. Eventually Premiers. At Round 6 was 2-4, and in the bottom 5. For the Round 7 game against Essendon they were 16 points behind at three quarter time.

I think until we got GWS as our Round 1 bunnies we'd gone two or three years losing to the Saints in the season opener. 2011-12 were outliers. Normal service just resumed.

I remember a few threads from years ago, where we were all bemoaning the fact that we didn't win in April too often.
Going by those years, it could have been 2005 and 2006.

This guy is a one time All Australian and I believe other key defenders in the comp such as Harry Taylor, Josh Gibson, Brian Lake, Ben Reid and probably Ted Richards have shown themselves to be better defenders than James over the last three years.

When you consider that Buddy is costing us on average $1,111,000 a year, it?s clear what a good value get that Buddy is for the Swans. James will play some good games, but Buddy will provide between 10-15 games a year for the Swans like he did against the Crows.

Gotta start with a high price I guess when it comes to negotiation. Otherwise he'll have nothing to work with.

The cost of Buddy will be small in hindsight. I'm starting to believe what the swans did was extremely well-planned. Wait until inflation sets in... then we will have gotten Buddy for peanuts. Each year, the salary cap seems to go up. Our younger players will have nothing at all to worry about.
