Hmmm hopefully all the talk about if Mitchell should be in our best 22 or trade bait might be squashed as ludicrous after his record breaking performance! Yes I know it was in a lower grade, but you can't deny his ball winning ability is elite and could possibly be all time great by the time his career is over! I've read that he really admires the way Gary Jr. plays and wants to try and emulate him! Dare to dream!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he broke into a very strong team, while Lloyd got his chance due to injuries.

Didn't Mitchell pick up 56 touches one week in the ressies, and it wasn't enough, so the next week he got 60 touches, then got picked for senior debut.

I haven't heard anything like that for Lloyd....or anyone else for that matter!
64 and four goals should do it.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

I believe Mitchell had a disrupted preseason due to his ankle surgery and that may explain his disappointing start to the season. As much as I love Lloyd's ability I think Mitchell at his best surpasses Lloyd at the moment, particularly with his sublime goal kicking ability.

I think one option after the bye would be to consistently play both Lloyd and Mitchell and rotate/rest Kennedy/K. Jack/Hanners/McVeigh/McGlynn out of the side alternatively.

That way our young guns get plenty of senior experience while our more experienced players get a week or two off here and there to stay fresh for the finals campaign.

Once the finals roll around you pick either Lloyd or Mitchell to make up you best 22.

I suppose you are talking about Lloyd's superb goal kicking. Mitchell's AFL record so far is 13 goals 18.

Nope. Lloyd is a beautiful set shot but Mitchell is a better snapper and on the run goal kicker. If we're comparing purely on stats then Mitchell contributes an average of 5.3 points per game + 19.1 disposals while Lloyd has only 0.2 points per game with a disposal average of 14.6.

Not disparaging the lad because I'm a huge fan (plus he's started on the bench a couple of times so hasn't had the opportunity to display his full range) but Mitchell is a better prospect both on paper and out on the field.

I hate comparing Mitchell and Lloyd, because I think both on the way to being exceptional players. I once made the comment that Mitchell should next be out of the team again. I want him back in the side, but don't think we have anyone that deserves being dropped. We are 5-0 now with Lloyd in the side.

If there ever was en example of banging down the door and demanding a spot, that would have to be it. His stats for that game are incredible. Did anyone mark him?

I think Laidler needs to go, to get Mitchell in. You have Reid and McVeigh who can rotate through the backline as needs arise. That still gives you Richards, Grundy, Rampe, Shaw, Smith, Malceski as your back 6.

This system will also allow the Swans to have one extra midfield rotation. Lloyd will be my sub in this set up.

Against the Gold Coast I like Ludwig's idea of moving Reid back and bringing in Membrey as the 4th key forward.

Relax, there will be quite a few retirements at this year ends, starting with Gooders, LRT, etc.
When we win the flag, quite a few more may decide that there is no better time to hang up the boots.
As mention before in this thread, we have quite a lot of players past 30.
So there will be lots of positions available!

                          Goodes will go on.
Just my gut feeling. There are some scenarios where I'm sure he'd call time, but at this point I reckon he reckons there's more footy in him.

Nah I think this year's it for Goodsey. I'm not that sad about it, because that's how footy goes and he's been so great thru the years. I just think he'll be moving on to bigger and better things at the end of this year.

Why is this a versus thread? Surely we want both of them as part of our midfield rotation in the coming years? Let's take a chill pill folks.
