The only thing that even borders on being silly is the suggestion he be traded. I'm a big Lloyd fan so I come from a different biases. From what I have seen and read, Mitchell is in the top 22 of the best players in the club. The "problem" is that each position requires different skills (some very slight differences and other more pronounced) and each player bring a slight different set of skills to the table. When you are starved for talent the best 22 get on the paddock. At the present Horse has the luxury of a lot of good players and had picked what he believes is the best balanced team. I'm sure he would love to have Mitchell out there gathering more top level games.

When Tom returns I hope he makes a big impact and supporters ask the question "why was he left out so long?"

This is a great discussion to be having I hope it goes on all year.

IMO Mitchell well ahead of Lloyd ATM but both look to be part of the future.

I also think the too slow argument doesn't cut it with Kennedy, Parker and Mitchell supposedly upsetting team balance. Winning the ball comes first and with the current side we still have plenty of run on the field regardless if Mitchell was included instead of Lloyd.

If run through the middle is a problem put Parker forward for longer periods, I love seeing his aggression, marking ability (for size) and pressure when he is forward. For that matter give Kennedy some time up there too, he is a nightmare for the opposition when he goes forward and this will probably be exaggerated with the current forward line and having to match up on the other talls first. Having a match for Kennedy's strength and size after assigning defenders to Tippet, Goodes, Buddy and Reid (if he is playing forward) would stretch any defence. I know having Kennedy forward would be robbing Peter to pay Paul and would only be done on occassions for short periods but the point is that there is plenty of flexibility for rotations in the current side that I believe does limit picking Mitchell.

Mitchell's continued exclusion is due to Horse not changing winning team at the moment but he will be back soon win loss or draw.

I thought Lloyd was impressive again last night. That goal late in the second term demonstrated his class and composure. I thought it was also a significant endorsement for Lloyd that he was not named as Sub.

He was pretty good, in a team that won by 110 points.....who wasn't?

You're over playing your hand on this one Matt.

Yeah I thought Lloyd was OK.
Derickx made a few errors, which is expected with the load he is carrying. To his credit he stuck with it and started to mark what he was dropping etc.
TBH I would have expected Mitchell in as a sub at least for Cunningham.
My pick would be for next round Mitchell in, Cunningham out and Lloyd on teh bench.
            Pyke in for Derickx.
Of course that may change due to injuries, or Goodsie

I'm a man who looks at the facts.

Lloyd came into the side in against Freemantle and the Swans have won 6 games on the trot.

There are many reasons for this good run of form, but its indisputable that Jake Lloyd has sung "Cheer Cheer" in all senior games he has been involved with.

                And your point is.....?

If your point is that we've won 6 straight, because of Lloyds inclusion...That's not fact that's delusional.

We've won 6 straight because of a myriad of reasons...like.....Pressure ( no good in the first 4 rounds), tackling, contested possessions, 2 way gut running(no good in the first 4 rounds), Tippetts

inclusion, virtually no injuries....and so on.

Despite a lot of this being rather nonsensical, I'd keep Lloyd over Mitchell if we keep winning and playing like that!

Whilst we may have won 6 straight with lloyd in the team, its hard to see how you could possibly call it a causal relationship. Lloyd is doing well, there is little doubt - but I do think its a long bow to draw to say we have won those games solely because of that fact.

I wore for the first time my Swans empire star wars tshirt whilst watching the game on the couch last night and we flogged geelong - I don't think that means that because I wore that shirt, we won by so much (although, being a little superstituos, I think I might adopt it as my attire when watching games at home until we lose!)

You better wear that t-shirt next week.

Believe me, I'll wear it for every game I'm watching at home on the telly until we lose when wearing it, then it'll go in the corner not to be worn again :P

Matt you may be interested to know that Leigh Matthews said on 3AW last night that he thinks Mitchell may look for opportunities elsewhere next year.
I don't think that will happen and I don't think the Swans will want that to happen. He will get his chance and then he will just have to take it and force the selectors to keep him there. Does anybody know when his contract is up?

We're keeping them both. End of story. Our midfield depth is the envy of all and we're not going to allow that to weaken. At the moment they're all fit, which is bloody marvellous. At the first sign of injury or fatigue to any of the current crop, Tommy will be back in.

I note that Harry effected 10 disposals in the last quarter too. I know it was junk time but it is still impressive.

I feel like the Red and White community are getting irate at me for suggesting that Tom Mitchell will seek opportunities else where.

A great friend of mine was a world class womaniser in his younger days. I beautiful young starlet was expressing frustration to him on his conquests.

He said to her in response "don't hate the player, hate the game".

I say therefore to the Red and White community " don't hate the pundit (me), hate the game" (trades do occur even to father/son players).

I think most of us Matt80 just think it is insane to look to trade a player (unless of course he wants to go) that is as good as Tom Mitchell. He will nail a spot in the first 22 at some stage, and not drop out again. Almost all players (bar the truly great players) can take time to consolidate their place in the team. Will be interesting to see. But I'd hardly take Leigh Matthews to be an expert on this matter - surely he is just taking a guess out of thin air (unless he has some secret source!)
