Realistically, everyone is still pretty upset.
Look back at our year in a few months time and a different mindset will be present.
The professionals at the club (as opposed to us fans) don't have the luxury of a few months and will have to sort it all out fairly and reasonably very quickly.
cool heads will prevail and I doubt we'll see anything too drastic.
If Goodes and Shaw go, I wouldn't expect more than a couple of second tear players considered for trade, and even then only for a great deal.

No hurry to move anyone on from the team that finished minor premiers but played poorly on the day that counts.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

Hanners in my opinion is the 4th best rated midfielder behind Parker, Kennedy and K. Jack.

He would be the trade to St Kilda for pick one. Patracca is six years younger and getting pick 1 for Hanners after drafting him at pick 30 in 2008 represents a brilliant return on investment. It will also relieve salary cps pressure.

It's also important in my opinion to get a trade for Bird. We need to back Mitchell and give him every opportunity.

I know Heeney, Mills and Dunkley are coming to reinforce the midfield, but adding one extra gun to that group would have us challenging the top 6 all through Buddy's contract.

      This is just my opinion.
Just my opinion; you are rather delusional to even suggest a trade for Hanners.

Very interesting... I wonder if swans will have a crack. I wish he was a few years younger.

Who was the last club to trade out a couple of highly rated players to get the number one draft pick?

          Hawthorn

Who was the number one draft pick in 2001?

          Luke Hodge

The Hawks essentially lost highly promising key position player Trent Croad. Luke Mcpharlin was also part of the deal that also included a swapping of picks.

One sentence says he wants to finish his career in Sydney, the next says he's happy to stay in Brisbane. Which one is it?

but we cant say that was the deciding factor in them winning premierships. remember the draft where they picked up lewis, roughead and buddy in the top 10? they had some pretty dismal years before they got those picks and before the mitchell, hodge trade worked. the hawks were not in the premiership window at the time. the swans ARE. trading off established player like hanners, parker, etc for high draft picks might not deliver us results for a decade, and who knows what position the swans will be in in a decade.

I don't know why I bother responding to such a silly idea as trading Hannebery for Petracca (pick 1).
                1. Why would St. Kilda, who are decades away from contending for a premiership prefer an established 23 yo player to an 18 yo future star? Maybe they know something we don't.
                2. Why would Hanners, a contracted player, want to leave a premiership contending club for the wooden spooners?
                3. As for this brilliant trade that you alluded to that landed Luke Hodge in 2001, a year the Hawks finished 4th. What do you think happened next. The Hawks failed to make the top 8 for the next 5 years, and even dripped down to 15th. Are you suggesting we drop to the bottom so we can starting rebuilding the team around 2020 on the back of this prospective trade?

With this sort of trading strategy your grandchildren will be in nursing homes before we see another premiership.

Kennedy, Parker, Hannebery, Jack & McGlynn V's Lewis, Hodge, Mitchell, Sheils, Langford. There are some surprising stats. Clearance differential was -3, Tackles -3, Contested Possessions -2. So you see as a midfield group, based purely on stats, we weren't far off at all. But where we couldn't compete, was uncontested possessions with a differential of -51. In fact as at team were lost the uncontested possession count 300-163. Uncontested possession stats to me usually represent how willing you are to work. A measure of your willingness to run to space to get a possession. A measure of your willingness to run hard to shake your man. A measure of your appetite for two way running. So it is obvious to me, we fell short in our effort. We just didn't work hard enough. Got nothing to do with pressure or lack of ability. We lost this game above the shoulders. They let their team mates down by lack of effort. And that is soft. And that not only hurts us as fans, but I am sure it is hurting the players as well.

So as a playing group, I don't think we are two far away. We were minor premiers, four AA's, two of the top four in Brownlow. And most good judges had us as the best team in the comp. But we fell one game short. There will be some changes due to retirements and transfers. But that is just natural list progression. Players like Mitchell, Membrey and Jones should get there chance. Some young KPD's from the draft will be nice also. But overall, with some soul searching and hard work over the off season and we will be challenging again next year
If you get the chance watch the game again. We won the contested ball but fed it again to a contest. Our spare men were never damaging. They used the ball to the spare man and then fed it to the man playing on Goodes and Parker. Mcglynn would then chase until he blew up and then there was no pressure. The four tall forwards were exploited defensively horribly. Ie it wasn't workrate at least not initially. It was us having talls like Reid Goodes and Tippett who couldn't put any pressure on their exits and them having Puopolo Rioli Breust who did the exact opposite.

Even if you don't watch the whole game just watch the play just after buddy kicks the goal in the third quarter. The Hawks don't goal from it but they run Luke Parker from our goal square to the wing chasing men. The ball is kicked without much pressure to Breust

Or the goal they kick after Goodes missed the set shot from 35. Watch goodes and I think Parker both unable to chase their men as the ball goes goal side.

I'm only responding to a rumour that Mark Robinson said on AFL 360. He said that St Kilda were open to trading their number one pick and were talking to the Swans about a player. He did not name the player. I've been making assumptions.

The beauty about this thread is that you can entertain rumour and innuendo. After Buddy any deal is possible.

Maybe I see a great future in Heeney, Mills and Dunkley. My strategy is to put one more gun in with that group and secure the midfield future. Fed by Tom Mitchell and led by Parker a midfield grouping of Patracca, Heeney and Mills could be deadly, even more so that today's midfield.

I don't want to upset people. This is just my opinion.

Hey there M80, you've concluded a lot of posts recently with "This is just my opinion" presumably to placate responses to your posts . Effective early but might be losing its effect in its constant continued use ... reality is, for most RWOer posts, they are only our opinions ... but this is just my opinion

Did any one pick up 2 comments by Gerard Healy last night on the couch. One that Sam Reid needs an operation and should not have played, the other was the most interesting re P Ryder in that HQ (I assume this means the AFL) said no way to the Swans making a play. All 3 people on the show said that is ridiculous and that the Swans should call their bluff. Perhaps Hawthorn should be swayed for bidding on Frawley and O'Rourke just as nothing was raised by other clubs with the transfer of Lake. McEvoy etc. Surely some melb scribes can see and say that we are not the only ones and now the Pies say maybe we could get Dangerfield.

They're not too contradictory, really- it just says he'd like a trade, but will see out the rest of his contract (next season) happily enough if one can't be facilitated.

I assume GWS are the destination and are dangling a few years and a fair few bucks to him on a contract, he'd be a very handy pick up for them (well he would be for most teams!). Wouldn't mind if were some how in the mix, but I can't see us having the dollars to splash around.

Didn't you hear multiple times from Wees and poos fans on Grand Final day - they don't buy players in, they only develop them Its only the Swans that ever do something like that.

Not suprised about Reid - he has been dreadful on the field for the last 6-8 weeks, and clearly not fit.

I wonder how long Sam has been carrying the niggle? He wasn't exactly dominating on the field, and Tippett had started to take over the backup ruck work- I wonder if we would have been better just making a change given we seemed a little top heavy when he was in the forward line anyway.
