Trade Radio are saying that Sydney should receive an end of first round compensation pick for Malceski should he take up the 3 year offer from the Suns.

What would people think about this?

I'd happily take it and run however it wouldn't surprise me to see us only get a 2nd rounder as a bit of a backhander for effectively picking up Franklin and Tippett for nothing.

That and a decent player might do it. One problem, it's StKilda, they don't have any decent players!

It has been suggested that Patful from Brisbane is up for a trade to the Sydney region. Merritt is also up for potential trade. I'd be interested in looking at either of them to shore up our defence.

What do people think about a possible trade for Schoenmakers?

Only 24, former first round draft pick, 196cm...obviously out of favor at the Hawks but we could develop him. Not sure what his contract status is and what we'd have to give up to get him, but if he came cheap it could be worth a shot.

Apparently Lewis Johnston now wants to be a key defender.

The Crows I don't think have offered him another deal.

Is he worth having back? He is an elite kick and could take up some of the Malceski skill shortfall.

If we get a late 1st round for Malceski, I would take it and be very happy.

1. I'm surprised to hear speculation that we could get an end if 1st round pick for Malceski. I'm a big Mal fan, but I'd be happy to let him go for that, given his age and our ability to cover his position. Perhaps that's why we are not hearing words like 'required player' from the Swans' camp, in fact, it sounds more like we are resigned to him leaving. The draft pick would certainly get us a top rated KPD and I would back Beatson to find a good one. But my feeling is that it will more likely be a end of 2nd rounder.
2. Schoenmakers looks like a footballer, but doesn't play like one. He certainly must be a big disappointment to the Hawks. We talk about Reid not producing, but for someone with such high expectations, Schoenmakers has been a flop. The Hawks also have an aging defence, so I wouldn't rate him if the Hawks would be willing to let him go.
3. Adelaide delisting of Shaun McKernan probably indicates that most clubs don't think he's worth a shot, otherwise you would think they would be looking to get at least a small draft pick upgrade. I wouldn't be averse to considering him for a rookie spot if he gets passed up and reaches that stage.
