Apparently he wants out of Geelong (the town) full stop. I think he would be exactly the type of player we are after at the moment. Make a play, Swannies!

Christensen is a serious gun, when he's not injured. We won't get him by packaging up a late second and late third round draft pick.

Yes, this one would reinstall my belief in a flag next year, as it is currently waning.

Can't see us being able to satisfy the Cats with a trade. He is a very good footballer when he's fit.

Yeh got serious talent but plenty of off field issues...it would have to be a good deal. Injury plagued as well.

Can the thread title be updated to remove "(merged thread)". Purely an aesthetics thing.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

If we could satisfy Geelong with a trade for Christensen, I'd be pretty happy; but can't see how we would do it.

does anyone else rate Jono ?

at first glance he would be a replacement for a Mal type role off the HBF or midfield.........

but i would guess that we dont have the capacity to have him join the Swans nor does he want to stay in Sydney ?
Both Jaksch and O'Rourke are exclusively interested in going back to Melbourne, unfortunately.

If the Lions can add Beams and Christensen this trade period without giving up too much and both can stay on the park they'll improve significantly next year.

I was hoping that there could have been an option to send Membrey, Biggs, and pick 58 for St Kilda's early second round. After reading that the Dogs are negotiating to send Liam Jones, Cooney and a 3rd round to Carlton for pick 27, I now believe the early 2nd round is out of reach as the current negotiations stand.

Having two picks at around 40 is the most realistic outcome. Maybe a trade of Biggs to a Victorian Club could move one of those picks up 2-5 places in the 2nd round.

I still believe that a trade for Craig Bird is best. Mitchell will be competing for his spot in 2015 and its time to back Mitchell. There will also be competition in the reserves from Heeney, Jones and Hewitt for his spot. If he has a down year next year, then his currency value will be shot.

A trade now would move one of those two likely picks around 40 up to a late 1st round or an early 2nd round.

                        This is just my opinion.
Biggs for only 2-5 places? Why would you bother? Especially since I think he really has a great chance to slot in as a kicker and interceptor of half back, basically the exact same role as Mal. A good pre season and a bit more bulk could do him good and with news of Mal gone he will have a lot of confidence that there is a spot for him.

I share your concern of "waning belief".
When you look at the current state of play it appears we expecting our list improvement to come from existing (both senior and reserves) younger players, whilst hoping the older players can maintain their current form.
Contrast his with the Hawks (as one example) who despite winning a flag, top up their list with a good KP player.
It will be interesting to see what we do during the draft period.

On the other hand, the Hawks have a lot more players 30+ who may drop off this year. And we ended as minor premiers while often not playing convincing footy - and not just in the GF. When Lloyd, Cunningham have more than 30 games each we can expect them to settle at a higher standard. So it's fair that we can look for significant improvement within - plus the addition of Mitchell and more games into Naismith, etc. From Horse's statement it seems unlikely there will be a Buddy/Tippett significant move from us this year.

Yeah exactly. Re improvement and talent, it's not a question of 'if', it's a question of 'when'. 'When' is critical because the apex needs to occur simultaneously across the park, without many injuries. The planets need to align. So, Buddy bagging another Coleman next year along with Tippett playing well with him is pointless if Rohan is at his apex in 2 seasons time, Heeney steps up the year or two after, the ruckmen start to dominate at a different time; meanwhile there are quality player exits etc etc etc. Timing is everything, and it seems obvious that the time is now (2014-17). Talent is only one part of the equation. That's why everyone is feeling that the GF performance was a huge waste of a perfect and rare opportunity.

The planets need to align, so good things need to happen all at once, not rationed over 5 years.

His statement is the same as the last two years so expect a Buddy/Tippett swoop!

Frawley is a dud and will spend most of the year at Box Hill.
