A lot of people said some pretty mean things about Morton also, not withstanding that everyone agreed he had the talent that Robinson doesn't, but he does have some mongrel about him that wouldn't go astray in our team.Comment

Membrey & Biggs & 39 for what? Low 20's?
Not sure many teams would want both players, unless it's a complex 3 or 4 way trade. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

It's going to be more unlikely than likely, but I think our best hopes lie with either St Kilda trading #1 for two of GWS's top 10 picks and/or what picks the Bulldogs get for Jason Tutt and/or Liam Jones who have both attracted Carlton's interest. Although I don't think the deal would be fair, the Dogs might cut their losses and trade both of them for Carlton's pick 46. They would then have #45 and #46 and will be more willing to trade one of them to us for Biggs and our #58. The only stumbling block is that Biggs would be a delisted free agent and the Bulldogs could pick him up for absolutely no cost to them so they'll have very little incentive to complete such a trade.
But let's assume for some reason they do, then we get #46 for Biggs and #58. We on trade #46 with Membrey for #41. We then hold #39 and #41. We find a club willing to do a 2-for-1 deal. In the past, Geelong have been one such club and we could target their pick #35 as a potential upgrade. It's only an improvement of 4 spots but it will be better than losing Membrey and Biggs for completely nothing.
Final outcome:
Sydney
In: #35
Out: #39, #58, Membrey, Biggs
Geelong
In: #39, #41
Out: #35
St Kilda
In: Membrey, #46
Out: #41
W.Bulldogs
In: Biggs, #58
Out: Jones, Tutt
Carlton
In: Jones, Tutt
Out: #46Comment

If we can upgrade 39 for either one (Membrey to Saints, Biggs to Dogs), we'll trade - otherwise, we'll let both walk and keep pick 39. At best, only one of them will be traded.Comment

Dogs just traded Cooney to Essendon for #37 (on traded from Port). They now have #26, #27, #37 and #45 with possibly Jones/Tutt to collect more picks.Comment

Maybe that pick 39 can now move up two places to pick 37 for Shane Biggs if no improvement can be done on pick 58. Better than nothing!Comment

Membrey trade dead in the water apparently. Let's call the whole thing off and head to the pub.Comment

We lose 8 from our 2014 list: LRT, ROK, Mal, Dick, Lockyer, Walsh, Membrey, Biggs (+ Patrick Mitchell)
We upgrade Richards & Lloyd and draft 3 Academy players - Heeney, Hiscox, Davis, + one draft pick still to come (if Beatson statement reported above is correct that we are only looking for one draft pick). That is a total of 6 in, leaving two empty spots (I think we must have a minimum of 38 on the senior list).
Does that suggest there will be two further rookie upgrades? Naismith? Robinson? ???
Have I missed someone or forgotten something. This time of the year gets very confusing! (I am already bewildered about who plays for which team with all the last minute trades going on!)Comment

Both Naismith and Robinson would be going into their 3rd years on the rookie list. There can only be one, so one of them will either be promoted, delisted or delisted and re-rookied.Comment

I raised this matter in another post, that there was a limit of 1 3rd year rookie, but could not find this provision in the AFL rules. I don't doubt that you are correct, but could you point to the actual rule?Comment

Biggs is on the Rookie list so it leave just one spot for a rookie upgrade in your scenario. Expect Naismith to be upgraded and Robinson to be 3rd year rookie. With AJ on the Long Term Injury List Robinson can be offered the possibility of an immediate rookie upgrade in 2015. Another possibility is delist Harry Marsh and rookie him if no other team picks him up. On what he has shown to date the Robinson and Naismith deserve Senior list positions ahead of him.Comment
