Brisbane is in an interesting situation this year. Looks like they will finish last or second last so with their first pick they take Schache or Weitering.
Then the first of their two standout academy players Keays will be bid on before pick 10 meaning they will have to use their high second round and high third round to secure him.
It also now appears likely that the second of their highly rated picks will get bid on between 15 and 20 meaning they will need to down grade their 2016 first rounder to secure him. I reckon they will do it unless they have an absolute star in their academy for 2016.
The ND is going to be super interesting this year.Comment

If ever there is a club that needs to get the academy system feeding its list and stemming a go home factor it is that club.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them also go for a priority pick for next year which I'd hope the AFL should consider favourably as they have started to put their house in orderComment

Announced today that the AFL has written to all 18 clubs asking for their thoughts on using future draft picks in this year's draft. Have I been misinformed about this. I thought this was part of the document regards Academy and F/S picks and the points system.
Is it not a fait accompli that the points system will come in this next draft?Comment

I guess the Melbourne clubs are saying that we have more flexibility now if we have a bumper academy crop so they should too.
Not sure it really is a consistent argument but couldn't care less really. Any club trading away future draft picks should do so at their own perilComment

If it shuts the likes of Eddie up then allow it I reckonComment

Every club gets the opportunity for F/S selections.
To a large degree it's a fairly level playing field.
The academies are the future of footy expansion.
I'd be happier with scrapping F/S altogether, just to see Eddie's face. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

This 'expert' rates Mills as 3rd best and Dunkley at 24th In this chart. That would be a good result for us. http://www.sen.com.au/news/07-15/our...rd-takes-shapeComment

Good to see two Lions academy kids in there, I think they have another one (Matheison I think) who is also rated top 30.
They are in a terrible position with young Weitering just signing with Pickers. Another great reason for us having home grown talent, you just feel the influence of player agents will be less pronounced with home grown.
If I was Brisbane I'd be seriously tempted to trade their #1 draft pick, maybe with a player included, and make sure they can afford those three players without going into deficit. They just cannot afford to lose another top 10 draft pick after two years.
We talk about the benefits of the Academy system and it's all about development and the cream on our list. That's all well enough but for Brisbane I'd say the academy system working is almost a case of life or death for that club. The go home factor is just killing themComment

They'll take Josh Shache with the number 1 pick who has already stated publicly that he'd to love to play for Brisbane, I believe his dad may have played some games there or something?Twitter @cmdil
