He will well and truly be a list clogger for us next year if not already

Still, I guess he was just a bit of insurance and pretty much on the basic wage

I really like the look of Nankervis and if we could het Sam up and running next season that will set us up well in that department

He must have improved a bit from the couple of times I saw him last year as he was pretty average, always second to the contest.

Looking forward to getting out there early Friday week to see the twos play.

Just noticed Nankervis 23 Pressure Acts against the Crows. Worth persisting with.

Naismith highly regarded by the coaching staff, will be upgraded. Perris the third year rookie then.

        nanko has upside

Sam will break thru all those injury issues by mid next year is my hope

Tip will continue the rotation with Mike or Nanko

I quite like Tippo and Nankerivs in the ruck together, Nankervis is still raw but love the way he throws his bodyin around the ground. Much more of a presence around the ground than Pykey who, as much as I admire his career, will be a squad player for the rest of his career I'd say but a more than adequate injury replacement

There's been some debate on here regarding vexatious bidding. Now, after the revelations of just how vindictive and controlling Mike Fitzgerald is, how easy would it be for Mike to promise Brisbane something extra (money, draft concessions, etc.) in exchange for a Pick 1 bid for Mills. Brisbane only have something to gain. They'll get their man anyway, supposedly Schache, plus whatever Mike has to offer.

I don't know if it will happen, but given what we know now, I certainly wouldn't put it past him. That would cost us all of our draft picks this year plus a bit from next. No room for Dunkley unless we want to start with a pick in the 50s in 2016.

I have no idea but I know that would be a pretty good scenario. Play the kids ? We might finish lower ...

At Pick 5 Mills would "cost" us 80% of 1,878 = 1,502 points.

Pick 14 is worth 1,161 points which leaves us in deficit by 341 points.

So, our pick 32 would be down valued by 341 points to 243 points which would move our pick 32 back to Pick 53

Now I don't think this is actually a bad outcome but if he goes at 2 picked up by Carlton then it is a lot heftier.

I can't possibly see us not taking Mills as we have pretty much guaranteed we'll take him. Couldn't see the Lions engaging in any underhand tactics but I fear that all the Melbourne clubs will pick him as early as possible as a matter of principle to stuff us over. But to be fair he is probably genuinely top 4 anyway so we'll take him regardless

So, we really need the Suns and Lions to finish 17th and 18th. It could still happen - Blues need to beat the Lions next week and their only other winnable match is versus the Dees. Gold Coast have the Bombers and Port and I fear they could win both of those games and possibly even go above the Bombers who I can't see winning another game all year.

It won't happen this year because Mills is probably that good but at some stage we will need to let some players go if we really feel there are some vexatious bids.

It will be interesting to see the situation with Dunkley - if the Pies finish with Pick 7 or 8 I'd say they'd want to be very wary of picking young Dunks there to spite us as I think we would let him go.

I know I am in the minority here but I think this system is actually pretty fair though I would like an extra 5-10 % discount for the academies

What I think would be unfair is that our value points would be decreased by first round compensation picks given to Brisbane and Adelaide if Leuenberger and Dangerfield leave for other clubs, by the fact that all the draft positions get pushed back. There's no mention of any adjustment for this, so would assume there isn't any. It's possible that Brisbane could end up with the first 2 draft picks this year and take both Schache and Weitering. Then a pissed off Carlton might go rifling through all the academy midfielders.

I could well see Carlton being dicks re this for sure.

A bit off track but there's no way IMO that Brisbane will risk drafting Weitering and losing him after two years. I know they probably haven't helped themselves but surely them losing all the players back home shows why the academy system just has to work

What I can see them doing is taking Schache, who likes the idea of Brisbane, and trade the Number 1 pick for a player and a bundle of picks that they will use to stock up on their academy picks, and I believe they have three very good academy kids who are all rated late first or early second rounders. They will also have their pick for James Aish too.

So, if Brisbane can get an established player, Schache, three academy kids and perhaps another first round pick from outside Qld then that should be enough for them to start a rebuild. If ever a club needed to get the academy system to work it is that club, they need to get to 50% local content as fast as they possibly can

I can see your point about letting Weitering go, perhaps even for something like Carlton's first rounder from next year and a third rounder from this year. With the pick they get from Aish they will have enough to get all their academy players, mainly Keays and Hipwood are the ones that may be bid in the first round. Carlton could then get Weitering and still have the next pick for another big name draftee, so both clubs would land a few star draftees from a rather shallow draft.

I would give Tippett and Bird for Weitering, but I can't see it happening. But they are a couple of players who could fill the hole left by Leuenberger and Aish.

Come on guys, trading of picks 1 and 2 just doesn't happen.

Brisbane's list is actually a lot better than their ladder position, they have had a long list of injuries to key players all year. Their two best academy players Keays and Hipwood are both likely top 10 picks so they will need some picks after they use pick 1 on Schache to pay for them.

My understanding is that your picks get pushed back by FA so it's in our interests if significant players like Dangerfield don't move clubs as we lose points every time a first rounder moves. The higher the compensation, the more points we lose.

As a rule I agree with you but the Lions have been so badly burnt with first rounder after first rounder going home after their two year finishing school in BrisVegas that they may well be too spooked to draft a player at 1 or 2 who is lukewarm about going there

Plus, they get a lot more currency trading Weitering's pick than selecting a player who is happy to play for the Lions but is really only rated 5-8

Another reason why the academy system will serve us well through the years, who knows we may have players demanding to be tradeed back home to Sydney

Yes was thinking the same thing! I don't think our recruiter's would have the balls to pull something like that off though. Would be great to see Eddie's face though! Lol.
