[QUOTE=barry;685665]Brisbane been told by the AFL that pick 39 will be their compo for Leuenberger! That means his contract can't be that big.

Brisbane now almost certain to match the offer as he is a RFA and work a deal. Given Essendon's appalling history of trading, we may be back in the hunt.

Don't want any list cloggers like Giles, we already have list clogger rucks.

Exactly; it time to cut our losses and just say no!

I am fine with not recruiting any journey men at all: premierships are built on talent so lets aim for that.

Mills and Dunkley are talent, and since they come with a discount, lets get them in, because we couldn't afford them any other way.

Heeney is a total star, and Mills will be the same, Dunkley will be good.

Anything else will be cream on top.

But people, lets remember that this is a shallow draft, whatever that means.

Under no circumstances should we go into deficit for next year.

Shallow draft means picks past 20 are low value . But still count the same as points for mills. Therfore is advantageous for us to trade our first pick for a stack of late picks worth more points.

Yeah you are probably right there, it does show why we were keen for Leuenberger.

If Brisbane force Leuenberger to the trade table then maybe a deal can be done - maybe an upgrade of their Pick 21 to 14 plus a player (Robbo) would be more palatable?

In terms of value for money this could work and it also lessens the Eagles power in their trade deal with Jetta - we end up getting Picks 21,33,36 and 38. Assuming our third rounder and whatever we get for Bird will secure Talia we are left with spprox 2,400 points that can secure Mill, Bird and a mid third rounder.

Apparently we have entered the race for Paul Seedsman now...I think we would be the perfect replacement for Shaw.
Genuine line-breaker, lovely kick of the footy and good overhead. He may be another one in the H.Shaw, Beams, Didak, Thomas etc mould that didn't like Buckley's 'my way or the highway' style of coaching.

Sounds like GCS might offer pick 22 for Seedsman, which will make it extremely difficult for us to beat.

Yeh but hopefully we can talk him into nominating us, then it doesn't really matter what other clubs are offering.

Or Seedsman plus Pick 7 for Treloar though I suspect that GWS would like some picks for next year tucked away.

Any player we want they'll be able to trump, they hold all the cards at trade week and will do so for at least 5 years given the crazy depth of their list

The Eddies would probably try to screw us on any Seedsman deal in order to make it harder for us to secure Mills

Also see that Geelong got Henderson and they advised that it is unlikely they will have room for Zac Smith even though Geelong is his first preference. Wonder if they will make another play for him?

Playing a dangerous game the Cats. First rounder with the number unknown for Henderson. Yuck.

Seedsman would be playing in our reserves, like he was at Collingwood for most of the year . He is quick, but not that good a kick. Would prefer Nic Newman if need be or even get Jed Adcock as a FA.

We don't need to do panic trades just because everyone else is shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic.
